We're not going to dock Brian Kelly too much for LSU's late-season fade with losses to Texas A&M and Georgia, because over the course of the season, his Tigers impressed. SEC West champions in Year 1? This is exactly why LSU wrote a blank check to Kelly to take over a program whose last national championship came in 2019. Kelly shook off a season-opening loss to Florida State, after which many national media members buried his potential, to win eight of his next nine prior to the Texas A&M setback. He even toppled Nick Saban this fall.

Dodged a big bullet here despite what some of the clowns here said

They said "a program whose last championship was in 2019" like that was a century ago.

Remember that "what's the difference between he and Saban? One coaches offense" quote?

Florida has the most important position locked up for years to come with Rashada and Lagway. The real problem comes with building the trenches.

Will be interested in seeing who their QB is going to be.
Richardson's gone, Kitna's going away, Stokes isn't coming

Freeman should be a C as well. Kelly left a program that had 5 straight 10 win or better seasons and he got 8 with some awful losses

quote:I do too. I think their program was in similar shape to LSU's with a depleted roster and some deep culture issues. They finished .500 this year and played some good teams tough. I think Napier is a good coach and they'll be ok.

Agree with most of the grades. I did deduct some points for the sloppy loss to FSU and the season ending collapse. So B+.

Freeman did a terrible job overall. He was given immense liberties by the media overall. We’ve been told he can recruit much better than Kelly. That remains to be seen for one and two, can he develop said talent? Seems a chunk of Irish fans are of the motto that “Freeman can bring the talent and Kelly could not” but can he coach it? Look down at Miami with Mario, he can recruit, but you cannot tell me that man is worth that contract. Now in Baton Rouge, Kelly is bringing in, one of LSU’s best classes of all time by grade and it’ll likely include four 5 stars as per ON3. Kelly is smart enough to surround himself with a great staff that can recruit as well, which is an underrated element of his game.

You didn't think they'd give him bad marks did you?

Winning the SEC West in your first year with what was left over from O should be an auto A+

Mario is soo horrible idk what Miami saw from his time at Oregon to make them think he was worth it

I don’t know how you give sunbelt Billy and Ven. Cs. Both should be Fs

If LSU can pull in the DL from the transfer portal
Hope this changes after this year. Cant be relying on transfer portal for top flight guys. We need to start getting top flight players in recruiting classes so they on campus for 3 or 4 years. DL, LB,RB,DB's,TE still thin. Bama, UGA, OH ST, MICh aint relying on portal to fill thin postions. Hoping by year 3 kelly is just using portal for depth and a few positions not a ton of starters like now.

Meh. Kelly has already laid out what he wants to do, and it’s clearly leading with recruiting and just filling pressing needs via the portal. But that’s going to take time. Look at home many guys we pulled in last year who are leaving after just one season. That was an emergency patch job.
This kind of turnover is part of a complete rebuild. Just be glad the portal is there so it’s possible to stay above water while that happens.
As for DL specifically, they need to do better at DT, but the DE and edge class is fine. We just need a lot of depth with the guys we have leaving for the draft and through the portal. That should settle out over the next season or two.
