When the CFP was created they specifically went out of their way to avoid these types of rules so you didn’t end up with a 8 win Purdue in the rose bowl or something. They wanted the absolutely highest ranked teams possible in every game.

was LSU the runner up? Just because you win your division doesn’t necessarily make you the second best team in the conference.

Was Purdue the runner up in the Big 10?

Don’t lose to FSU and A&M and you’re in the sugar bowl

Nope, we’d be in the playoffs with the only loss to UGA in SECCG.

Just goes to show you more people believe in a poll as reality that what really happened. LSU did play as the SEC West Winner and lost to the number 1 team in the nation who happened to be the SEC East WINNER.

Yep it only makes sense LSU would be Sugar bound. That is what really should happen.

Would have rather just gone back to pre-BCS era.
LSU would have 2 less NCs.

Rule simply says SEC champ to Sugar unless they in CFP. When that happens it’s the highest ranked team. That makes sense. LSU is 4th highest ranked SEC team. They want the best possible matchup. Same rule applies to Big 12 opponent.

I understand your position, but respectfully I don’t necessarily agree.

I’m fine with the rule that highest ranked conference team goes if champion is in playoffs.

Also doesn't make sense for a four loss team to go to the sugar bowl over multiple 2 loss teams in the SEC, division champ or not.

We would of went to the sugar bowl or been in consideration if we wouldn't of loss to A&M but with 4 losses. No way!

Agreed.

And there will still be “controversy“ over teams 33 and 34 not making it

Terrible idea. This year is a great example. LSU is clearly not the second best team in the SEC.

Yes. Made the championship, lost.

"Zero sense" is taking a four-loss team whose fans won't be staying in hotels and patronizing local venues.

I’m happy for the matchup though - SEC and Big10 runners up is pretty huge.

Winner of this one should finish #5. Sugar bowl was out of its mind.
