The line of scrimmage in football and the offsides rule in soccer both accomplish the same goal, which is to create order. Remove them and chaos ensues. An attacker standing in the goal while the ball is 20 yards out is just as dumb as allowing a LBer to stand behind the center before the snap.
The problem with offsides is not that it exists but how it is interpreted. Video review has made it to where if your fingernail is offsides, you are offsides. They should go back to the daylight rule.

Eliminate the targeting rule and stop protecting the QB and the offense in football gets put back in their place

Soccer definitely needs a blue line like hockey...make it so there's no judgment and once inside the blue line players can roam wherever.
That would be awesome, some dude just camping out by the goal like an NBA center underneath the basket waiting for a pass.

I disagree. Basketball is so damn painful to watch. Everything is a foul.
Not to mention, in soccer, if you’re fouled, and you still have the advantage, you play on. Basketball needs to adopt that rule.

Offside should be tweaked to where if any part of your body is onside you are onside but to remove it entirely would be ridiculous.

At minimum, I think ideally there should be “no offsides” if the player is partially overlapping with the defender (sort of analogous to a QB that can throw a pass as long as his foot is still behind the line of scrimmage).
If there is overlap, then it’s on side. Once totally beyond the defender, then it’s offside. I don’t like these millimeter and eyelash offsides calls.

Yep. That is called the "Daylight Rule" where there has to be daylight between the attacker and the defender for the flag to go up. Governing bodies should be asking the questions, 1) Is this in the spirit of the rule? 2) Is someone gaining an advantage?

Offsides should be changed as follows
There should be complete separation between the offsides player and the last defender. No more of these arm/foot/leg calls.
It's to prevent an unfair advantage (or goalkeeper distraction in the box). These count-hair calls are not fulfilling that purpose.

I don’t mind offsides given how big the field is, but the fake injuries and flopping that has leaked over into American football has to go. That stuff is so cringe.

When my kids began to play as youngsters, offsides pissed me off immensely. It caused me to have philosophical differences with the sport.
So much so that I decided to do some reading up on it. IIRC, offsides was not always a penalty in organized competition amongst countries, etc.
It came about when the reigning powers could not keep up with the speed of their competition from certain regions. It was a way to equal the playing field for the less gifted.

If the game is tied in the last five minutes set the ball on fire and play that way.
