Great job.

Actually pretty good.
Don’t worry about the downvotes. The typical Rant poster in 2022 has never heard of Ernest Lawrence Thayer’s “Casey at the Bat,” as illustrated by the couple ignoramuses who posted in this thread.
Their idea of literature is Maxim magazine.
Now 15 years ago you could make a literary reference here and get some appreciation. Not today.

First of all, poems about sports and schools are inherently gay. Second, there are similar instances of imperfect rhyme and meter in each. There are times when each poem doesn’t quite flow because of this.

Yeah... No one is going to call it that.

To be fair, this is not exactly Twas the Night before bama, which is far more accessible.
This poem was old when men were coming home from WW2
Walt Disney’s 1946 Casey at the Bat
The only reason I know it is that it was in a poetry reader in my…5th grade class I believe? It somehow always stuck with me. That image of the world beater, the best there was, the GOAT who always seemed to find a way to win and pull it out at the end, like we’ve seen Sooooooo many times before.
All of a sudden…bested
It seemed apt.
Hell, it was good enough for James Earl Jones to read it
When was the last time Saban had lost in Tiger Stadium?

Well done. Can I suggest, ‘burning in their chests?’ …unless I’m to picture a team of amazons

You seem to be infatuated with using the word “gay” in circumstances where few others find it applicable. You might want to ask your therapist why.

Why all the down votes on the opening post?

You know, my process was a bit like a surgeon. Cutting out this piece and that piece while leaving elements of the original in tact so it was still recognizable to those who knew the original poem and could understand the references
Other than the meter there are scant few things I kept the same , that line being one of them. I considered making that alteration as well, but kept it because it evoked that image (to me) of a furious heartbeat just pumping and pumping from the suspense.
But what it could use is some images of some well endowed fans at the game cheering, if the rant wants to find me one of those in a gif.
You know, to emphasize the point.

I’m used to it. I don’t know if its the reading or the length or maybe some just don’t care for me and that’s fine too.
I’m gonna keep writing stuff like this if we keep on playing games worth writing about

I absolutely love this! Thank you
I’m so glad some people enjoyed it. I know I risk alienating people by referencing obscure material but this was a personal favorite

I made a small edit, right before the “not my style”
Flows better now.
I’ll get around to another recording when my voice can rest
