It’s an absolute disgrace what has happened to Tiger Band. Tiger Band may never recover from the hostile takeover of the school of music. Promoting Kelvin to director just shows they don’t give a shite about the band and just see it as a cash cow for the school of music

It should have been a national search like they promised

Sadly, TGBFTL has been in decline since they hired that pompous as director.

Auburn’s band

Their director is an LSU and Tiger Band alum, and should've been the first call LSU made when they were looking for a new band director. Auburn's band is one of the best in the SEC. Instead, in typical LSU fashion, we basically hired the Ed Orgeron of band directors.

Actually, it's the LSU School of Music that has been diverting funds away from Tiger Band. Moving Tiger Band under the control of the SOM was a cash grab engineered by F*King Alexander, Todd Queen, and Damon Talley.

The Pregame Tiger Band played as the fans stormed the field was garbage. What the hell was that. They rushed the shite out of it. It sounded like the crappy basketball version Bengal Brass plays.

Quality is on a steep decline. This is what happens when you let the school of music take over and let them hire a high school band director instead of opening the checkbook for a legitimate college director.

One of the things I LOVE about high school & college over the promise the bands. I love getting to a high school game early and seeing the band & cheer squad March in on the track while they're jammin and goin to their spot. That's goin away in some places

Patently false in every regard. Athletics does not pay for full scholarships for every band member, which is the stated goal of The Four Notes Club. The money is designated for use by The Four Notes Club, not the director of bands.

The ONLY scholarships that Tiger Band has are funded by Athletics! The Four Notes Sham is funding Damon Talley, and we all know he hates the Tiger Band. Remember, he was QUOTED as saying, "the Tiger Band members are OVERPAID and UNDERWORKED."

So, how in the hell is Athletics paying for anything and everything that Tiger Band could ever want when they aren't doing this?

They (Athletics) are! The School of Music funds NOTHING for the Tiger Band....NOTHING!

It needs to be expanded at least back to the size it was earlier.

I think their halftime shows are good and well done, mechanically. They march well, but are simply too small.

The most pathetic thing I have ever seen among SEC bands was that 50-piece band Bama brought to TS Sat night. Never saw a pep band that small.

My high school eliminated the band. Turned the band hall into a weight room for football team. The band used to be the pride of the school. Admin decided it wasn’t worth it anymore.

The local HS here has a band for the first time in a couple of years. The old band director left and it took this long to find a replacement.

The Tiger Band was expanded to 325 under Wickes. Wickes/Athletics capped the band at 325 which is where it is right now. The problem is recruiting (instrumentation, i.e. need more brass) and teaching....they sound horrible.

I'm sorry to disagree, but the Tiger Band's marching is terrible. And, their shows are horribly designed and poorly executed. The problem is the director of bands (Talley) HATES the Tiger Band.....he uses scholarship money from atletics to scholarship students who DO NOT PLAY IN TIGER BAND. HOW IS THIS OK?

I'm pretty sure they've always had 325 members, but that includes the Golden Girls and Color guard. We need at least 325 musicians plus auxiliary, so that would mean expanding the total membership to around 400 members.

I think that we have two sizes for pep bands...a 50 member band for far away games and a 100 member band for most away trips. We actually brought the full band to Auburn this year. I don't think we've taken them on the road since 2019.

I know that LSU has two sizes for pep bands as well. It depends on the mode of transportation......if they fly, the pep band is 55, and if they bus, the pep band is 110.

It appears that the LSU administration is fine with things as they are.

Of course they are! Most of them haven’t been around long enough to know how great it used to be. They probably also don’t care enough about “band” to even bother to do any type of historical research on it. But that is why our opinion is so valuable. Those of us TB alumni who were lucky enough to have experience some of those great years need to “band” together (pun intended) to show OUR passion and displeasure for the current state of our beloved Tiger Band. I hate that it even comes to this, but the current students, future students, TB alumni, and the general public deserve better.

The band needs to be put back under the umbrella of the Athletic Dept, expanded to 350+ with a lean towards more low brass ( I find our current sound to be trumpet-heavy, which is hard for me to admit as a trumpet player, and they need to search for a qualified marching band director replacement.

Kids in high school now don't have any interest in being a part of the band.

It is all driven by the Band Director. When a good one is there the school's band thrives. When they leave it immediately declines. I saw it at my high school.

I agree.....however, with the current leadership, more numbers will not matter. The teaching/leadership is poor (at best).

What has happened to it?

Queen, Talley and Jones.

And all are correct about how fast they are playing things, especially Pregame. I know they probably have gotten rid of the old handwritten sheet music and replaced it with nice and neat computerized versions, but clearly written above the 8 bar measure where the drums play the intro, stated "Slowly and Majestically".
Unfortunately, its neither any longer.

It was an internal hire. He directed the Director of the Bengal Brass for a few years before he got his current job as Director of the Marching Band.

Your point is made though...they went cheap.

I’ve heard the same about this “club”. I’m somewhat reserved in my judgement, as some of the people behind it are great folks with great intentions, but there’s also a couple that are heavily involved that have become way too powerful and have ridden the program down the hill.

There’s also someone with a title “Director of Bands” that has no music degree, and had never been a band director…not elementary music, junior high, HS…nothing. There’s also some conflicts of interest with the same person in regards to other business ventures that TB has utilized. I BELIEVE this person is also a major influence in the Four Notes Club.

I don’t know anything about the business part but I thought the entire thing was odd
