What US cities have you been to that aren’t exactly tourist destinations but you enjoyed?

Just got back from a couple days in Louisville and I have to say, pretty great place to visit. The downtown is clean, great distilleries, food was solid.

I never would have thought “man we should go to Louisville” but I really enjoyed the stay there.

I've always had a really good time in Tucson.

Great hiking, cycling, food is really good, Saguaro National Park.

I’m serious. I took a 3 day vacation to Detroit and enjoyed it. Caught a baseball game, a couple breweries, a weekly downtown summer festival, The Henry Ford Museum, casinos, and some good restaurants. Downtown is actually pretty small and walkable. Never felt unsafe.

Milwaukee. I had a good time when I visited. Went to an Admirals game. Saw a game used Hank Aaron jersey at the Mall of Wisconsin.

Also been to Salt Lake City and Provo. That's another nice place to visit.

Camden Maine. Cool little town with a nice state park nearby. Felt like a little Hallmark Christmas town with fantastic scenery.

Edit-oh I guess that’s a “town” and doesn’t really qualify. Still a cool place.

I will be downvoted for this, but, I see DC gets on all the time. Pretty sure I have visited every Top 25 city, population wise, at least 10 times each. Easy. Continental US.
Usually it’s from people that rarely ever get out of there own town. Great place for a family to visit. Not as overwhelming as NYC or LA but historically great.
Another one, Buffalo.

Paso Robles

I feel that it is underrated in comparison to Napa, Sonoma and other California wine regions. Why? For one thing it is a lot smaller. I was there last year and can't wait to go back.

You’ve been to El Paso 10 times? Sorry to hear that.
