Dollars in below chart are all inflation adjusted:
Full breakdown of the Meta Reality Labs investment at the 31:19 mark of this week's episode of the All-in podcast

When does Zuck get shitcanned?
Posted on 10/29/22 at 7:10 pm to TheOcean
You can't. He has a special class of shares. No one can out vote him. He is the defacto dictator of that company.

Does the link explain wth a reality lab is?

They cover its use cases a little bit, but if you listen to the podcast you will come out a smarter and more informed person on the other side. The All-in podcast is one of the best podcasts out there currently. It's a must listen every week if you ask me, especially if you like investing and the stock markets in general.

He started it. Good for him to protect his interest in continuing to lead it.
He’s making a monumental bet on this. If he’s right, then it changed the world. If he’s wrong, then Meta will have a questionable future.

He can develop meta until he's blue in the face but unless he can change a generation of assholes raised in CoD lobbies all he's going to end up with is a bunch of 15 year olds with Barney avatars running around trolling everyone with bad language and worse behavior.

So Tennessee alters and some of their rant posters.

That already exists and it's called VRChat and its way worse than that.

Zuck is putting it all on the line to innovate where he believes the next big thing will be.. whether he's wrong or right, he's got balls of steel
I think he's betting on the right thing. I think we are already metaverses and the whole sector will grow. However, I dont like his vision of the metaverse, too centralized and costly for users.

Balls of steel? What is the downside for the man? He’s got wealth that the next ten generations of his descendants could prudently live life as billionaires with.
Compare this “bravery,” to that of someone like Musk. He took on the Big 3 Automotive Industry after doing similar groundbreaking work that created generational wealth in tech. At the same time, he’s indirectly picked a fight with the fossil fuel industry.
Almost simultaneously, he took on companies like Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Raytheon, Northrop Grumman, Booz Allen Hamilton and others by trying to muscle into the NASA Contracting business.
A little further down the road, he’s tried to blaze new paths in multimodal transportation with the Boring Company, on and he’s tried to create solar energy in the home building industry as well as commercial sectors.
He did most of his work at Tesla and the Boring Company with open patents. You want to talk about balls of steel? frick Mark Zuckerberg. Musk is the one with titanium testicles.
He’s taken on the auto industry, the military industrial complex, the fossil fuel industry, and oh by the way…trying to defend democracy and free speech absolutism from the Left…worldwide.
I haven’t even talked about Starlink.
Zuckerberg has money. But his, “bravery,” is a joke compared to what someone like Musk is trying to accomplish.

Could you gobble Musk's balls any harder? Jesus..
I didn't mention Elon, and was not comparing Zuck to anyone. Just commenting on him putting his company in the line for something he believes in.

I have hands on experience in this realm and have followed VR and related areas since they were first explored at SIGGRAPH decades ago.
The 10 billion VR dog won't hunt. It is a physical limit due to the eye strain of looking at little screens an inch or two in front of the eyes. Wearing the goggles for extended periods of time is also an annoyance.
Get rid of the goggles and replace the long outdated and crappy cartoony graphics, and the concept might work.
I think Zuck saw a demo at a convention and thought it was a great idea. VR does make a good convention floor attraction due to short duration exposure and novelty.

Seems he should have paid for TikTok and SNAP instead

That's where the billions are going, tbh. It's not ready right now, to be sure. Probably won't be ready for 5+ years.

You think Facebook is getting in the hardware business. They already spent a boatload and have nothing to show for it.
I don't think they are in the business of R&D their own chips, they are completely reliant on what industry produces for them. If they were building something of their own, they would have hired some big name from Nvidia, Intel etc..

You didn’t have to. One guy’s picking fights to better humanity at the helm of a bunch of companies that issue common stock and open source patents.
The other guy owns a majority of a company using controlled shares and will never be threatened with control and has shared nothing about the billions he’s spending.
That you think it’s ballsy that a Billionaire is spending billions while truly risking nothing versus others who risk their decisions removing them from their companies and sharing much of the actual work they’ve pioneered with the rest of the world for free is cute.
I don’t support one over the other. I just understand bravery better than you do.

The problem is: what do they have to show for it? The graphics are terrible (not something you want for an immersive experience), and there are currently only 327 daily users. That’s abysmal. The world is turned off by this dystopian version of the future that Zuck is selling.

TikTok burns more money than Reality Labs. It only works because the Chinese Government bankrolls it so they can spy.

This is their projected spending over like 10-years. Just to clarify.
