Confused about the “non” fumble last night.

Call of a fumble reversed = Indisputable evidence showing it was an incomplete pass and not a fumble.
The ball landed BEHIND the QB, it went backwards. So even if it is ruled a pass, it’s a backwards pass which is a fumble. No?

It looked to me like it was stuffed coming off of the qbs hand.

They’d probably explain it away as a batted down pass that went behind the Qb, but when AR’s arm started moving forward it was already without the football even touching his throwing hand.
Total BS call.

His arm was not coming forward and it was a fumble. Definitely not a play that should be overturned after being called a fumble on the field.

quote:no. Richardsons arm was coming forward (barely) so when we knocked it out of his arm, it was an incomplete pass. Tipped passes don’t convert a forward pass to a backward pass.

The replay got it right. it was very, very close, but the right call.

Those rules don't count when the pass it interfered with via contact (with the QB or the ball after the throw like a batting).

No they didn’t. I went frame by frame, and the ball was separated from his hand before the arm came forward.

Take off the P&G glasses.

Yes it was. But without the football touching his hand. You have to have control of the ball at the moment the arm starts moving forward , and he didn’t .
If that call was treated the same way in 2011, TM7 would’ve had half his strips called back as incomplete passes.

Ah ok i didn’t realize the bat made it go backwards, I haven’t watched a replay. That would at least explain the shite ruling.

When a Team A player is holding the ball to pass it forward toward the neutral zone, any intentional forward movement of his hand or arm with the ball firmly in his control starts the forward pass. If a Team B player contacts the passer or ball after forward movement begins and the ball leaves the passer’s hand, a forward pass is ruled regardless of where the ball strikes the ground or a player (A.R. 2-19-2-I).
When in question, the ball is passed and not fumbled during an attempted forward pass. (Exception: Games using Instant Replay)

Gene Steretore gave an explanation a few wks ago on a similar play. He said the arm coming up is not forward. Until the arm moves forward with the ball, which his never did, does it become a pass.
AR15 tried to go forward with his hand but Perkins already had hit the ball loose in his hand.
My honest opinion is that the refs did not want to end the game on an instant replay judgement and get hammered later.

Wrong.

Indisputable is the key word. What ever the original ruling on the field was should have stood. I never saw the ball move on the Brian Thomas sideline play either. Not to the point you over turn it either.

Honestly though, The refs let them play the entire game unless it was a blantant penalty. Love seeing the refs let the guys play fast.

No, it is treated like a batted pass, if the hand is moving forward, it's a forward pass. And the hand was moving forward despite the bellyaching by some of the ranters.
I made a gif of the slow motion they showed after the pass. That seems crystal clear to me that his hand was moving forward, even though I hated it.

The gif shows an empty hand going forward. No way that should have been overturned.

Only if you have your P&G glasses on.
His hand with the ball is moving forward when the ball is knocked from his hand.
Of course, his hand is still moving forward when the ball is out but started forward with the ball.

As per the rules, no.
It's dumb. The ball was dislodged before it left the QBs hand and went backwards. But, because his arm was moving forward, it is considered a forward pass.

Is it a lateral when a DL bats a pass down and it ends up behind the QB? No, it’s not. The arm was ever so slightly moving forward so it was the correct call
