Feels like when kendall beckwith was on the bench behind dj welter. Perkins is reminding me of the honey badger right now. Always around the ball and making things happen. Keep him on the field

Kendall Beckwith was clueless as a freshman. He could only rush the passer

Should he have been on offense?

Not havjng perkins in the line up is like having a dragon in a battle and not using him to fight. Perkins is a legit difference maker.

Let Perkins rush the passer. He gave Richardson fits late last night

He’s not in on obvious running downs some because he doesn’t hold up well vs the run at his size according to coaches . That’s it

You never know how much of the defense the kid grasps. Yes, he’s incredible at that spy position and makes tons of plays when the QB tries to escape. But no one on this board knows if he’s got a handle on everything else that happens.

Is it possible that Perkins is fantastic in certain situations, but not ready to handle the full-time responsibilities of his position? He stands out when on the field, but is it because he doesn’t have to adjust and can just go out there, do what they’ve told him for that package, then return to the bench (similar to a young WR that has only a limited play set)?

Yeah, I was watching some highlights of the game and talking about how this kid is not on the field on every defensive snap.

Just watch him on kickoff coverage, he's literally the guy getting the tackle 75% of the time

I just watched the condensed version of the game, and his spy ability is crazy good. He gets good leverage in rush defense. Really impressive for a freshman

He was playing the spy on AR15 last night which is what we thought would be the goal against Hooker last week, but dude was lighting it up on us and that’s why he didn’t see the field as much.

I think things got amplified when Richardson pulled off that run to start the 4th and we needed to make sure we kept his legs in check.

Perkins is sub’d in and plays during situational down and yardage. He plays on key passing downs where he can spy the QB and create pressure

We had a lot of players with great athletic ability and they were squandered. Melvin Jones could’ve been one of the best pass rushers we had at linebacker. Dude was 6’3 240 and ran a 4.6. Les made him a fullback lol

Some of our more vocal fans on here can't grasp this concept. I've tried multiple times.

Well, it’s either that, or the average Ranter knows way more football than Brian Kelly.

Yeah, of course that’s what it is. Same reason Patrick Peterson, Kendall Beckwith, Devin White, etc all sat the bench behind inferior athletes.

Not a good comparison, Beckwith only knew to go after the ball allowing the offense to fool him into being badly out of position most of the time till about halfway through his sophomore year.

Perkins seems to having far better discipline then most all of our freshmen linebackers in recent history about having to play his position instead of trying to make the big hit on every play.
