As someone who used to have a complex that we ended up turning sec 8, in north br not tiger land, I can say it beats the hell out of hounding people for rent money and has guaranteed rent increases. As long as you do minimum maintenance it’s a goldmine.
We ended up selling it for at least 1/3 more than it would have had it not been sec 8.
Sec 8 is a godsend for complex owners whose properties get absorbed into the hood.
I doubt any of the owners would sell unless the offer was really good. Hard to turn down that govt auto deposit every month.

A lot of those complexes should be condemned. Same with some of those places on Gardere.

It seems like in 10 years student apartments will be 10 miles from campus. Everyone moves into the new complex and then 4/5 years later a newer place is built a few miles away and the old ones are section 8. Everyone wants a new place with new amenities.
I would assume the owners are making guaranteed money without having to do anything on section 8 so they have little reason to sell.

Brightside apartments were decent and Sharlo condos were the best when I was at LSU. Hell, Dennis Tracy and Shaq lived a couple of condos down from me.
The place looks like New Orleans East now. Not good.

Ruining prime real estate near the flagship university.
Why would LSU or the state let this happen?
Where do kids go out now days?

It was already a dump in 2011 when I lived there. Can't imagine how bad it is now if it's 80%+ section 8.

The whole Sharlo complex is Section 8.
Sharlo was luxury living when I was at LSU.

I'd assume near campus at the surrounding apartments down Burbank, Nicholson, Highland, Ben Hurr etc

I lived in Tiger Plaza when I got out of the Army and re-enrolled back at LSU for a year. It was a slum then. Someone was shot to death at the complex and there was an aggravated rape that occurred there as well. I’m going to have to take a drive through there when I get back to BR for the Bama game and see how it is now. Probably unrecognizable

About 3-4 years ago I was in the area and drove my wife and kids through there to show them where I lived in college. They were like holy shite ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

Buddy I don’t know when you graduated, but when I graduated in 2008 it was a shithole. We were just too young/drunk to know/care.
You couldn’t pay me to go around TigerLand now.

Same reaction I got from my family. Saddened me to see what that area has become. Cilly’s(sp?) and Fred’s was the best. lol
