Hypothetically speaking, a shot to a foot would act as a deterrent. Also hypothetically if caught the federal judge in that jurisdiction will make an example out of said shooter.

Do they tear up y’all dog boxes or CB antennas?
Leave a bear alone and hunt without the feed.

Why would you ever suggest someone maim a bear just because it eats your corn?
Perhaps if you farmed corn as a cash crop and fricking bears were destroying your investment then your opinion would be different. The politicians who thought it a good idea to reintroduce these wretched creatures should be tarred and feathered.

So a friend of mine is having problems with a bear at his lease. Tearing up feeders
probably needs to stop putting out food.
Bears live in nature, your friend is the issue.

Contact WLF. If the bears are getting too bold and close to people they will remove and if it continues they will put them down. I know people in N La. That did this.

This thread has it all. Including some bona fide WOODSMEN. Don’t believe it? Just ask em, they’ll tell you how badass they are. Haha, buncha Ronnie’s on the prowl.
To the OP: leave the bear alone, stop feeding in his area. They are part of the balance in the food chain and are fun to watch, honestly. I was up a tree on Tensas on New Year’s Day a few years ago and watched some cubs using palmetto fronds to rake leaves. Their interactions made for a fun sit.

You have feeders and let me guess you only want deer to eat your bait.

On one of the properties I manage in northeast Louisiana, I suggested my clients discontinue baiting, not just because of the number of bears that were being attracted, but also because the vast majority of the mature buck movement was at night on these bait stations.
This past summer we put in several new plots and discontinued baiting. Initial results are positive with the number of daylight buck sightings up from last year. And while we still have a few bear, the number of trail camera photos and sightings is down.

I’ve hunted in box stands my whole life with my grandpa, who has been my life long hunting partner. So it’s pretty much all I know. He’s getting up in age so I try to take him now as much as I can because who knows which season will be his last. We have land in northeast Louisiana. Not a lot of monsters in that area, but we hunt to stock the freezer. We’ve stopped using feeders and will just put corn out either before or after we hunt. I know some people think that’s atrocious but it’s what we do.
The bear population up there is mainly more annoying than it is anything else. They’re just so invasive. My grandpa hates them and cusses them daily.. I usually just laugh at his rants. No way I’d actually ever harm one, but they can definitely be aggravating.

We’re in the CWD zone, so no baiting. Still covered up with bears.

The two places I manage in that area are both in Franklin Parish. One is in the zone, one not. The one in the zone has a few bears but so far we’ve been fortunate with low numbers.
I’m afraid based on the number of “outlaws” that poach the property each season, the odds are probably pretty good that some bears have been shot.
The other property is in the western part of of the parish and has been wrapped up in bears for awhile now. But we have had reduced sightings without the feeders so far this season.

It was never really about the bears. It was about stopping deforestation.

I don’t mind seeing a bunch of bears, but the population in the Tensas NWR is such that it could sustain limited hunting. They would become a trophy instead of a nuisance.

Just saw three bears. Different ones from the two I saw in this field two days ago.

If they want the bears to leave the feeders alone, they can switch to soybeans. Not much else you can do other than finding a way to scare it either by shooting a round (not shooting the bear) in the area. Other than that, you will just have to live with it in the area. They are going to tear up feeders they can reach with corn in them, and they will claw wood up. It's just things that bears do.
Wounding the animal is surely not the answer though.

So I hunt on property bordering the TRNWR in Madison Parish. We have been obeying the no feed rule.
A normal opening morning pre ban ban might have resulted in seeing 5 to 7 deer a couple being bucks.last weekend opening morning I saw 6 does and 2 bucks, none of which I shot. Saw nothing in the afternoon.
Sunday evening I killed a doe and saw a young buck.
No bear
Last season I only had 2 bear sightings: pretty sure the same bear came out mid morning ate corn and took a nap in the half sack of corn he didn’t eat. He did the same thing in the exact spot on the last Saturday of the season.
I laughed my arse off.
He was laying in the same spot while 2 does were feeding about 100 yards from him n another shooting lane.
Leave the damn bears alone.
