Farmers lobby put up a big stink. People forget that the US still produces a lot of crops. More sunlight in the morning has always been better for plants. They were willing to go with the change after harvest but making it year round will be a deal breaker.

The combines farmers use now have lights and GPS, they don't need daylight to run.

Try again.

DST has nothing to do with the sunlight plants get in the morning. Whether it's 7 am or 6am, plants are still getting morning light.

Huh?

So if we arbitrarily change how we view time, that will affect natural morning and the sun coming up?

Don't see how nature is affected by us saying it's 7 oclock vs 8 oclock.

How do they communicate the clock time to the plants?

I've got news for you then, baw! You'll be happy to know that plants don't recognize the clock.

Seriously, this is some of the dumbest shite I've read here in a while.

ETA: If this was a joke, fine. I don't retract my statement, though. It is impossible to tell these days.

The sun comes up when it comes up regardless of DST

Never would have guessed this would be as an explanation for DST. Can't have those plants missing all that morning sun due to an arbitrary number.

Farmers literally set their own hours. There is no need to cater to them for a time consideration.

People working conventional jobs are the real losers in DST. Most people would prefer to get off of work and have some daylight remaining in their down time.

Plants don’t care what schedule us humans take but I would sure rather an extra hour of sleep before getting in the deer stand come winter
