Ecoboost owners question

Im looking at F-150 Ecoboost models 2017-2019. If you had to do it over again , would you by the Ecoboost again? How is the towing capacity? I haul boats and tractors sometime but need it more for driving 75 miles a day for work. Anything i need to be aware of with the ecoboost? TIA

I had a 2019 and I liked it. The interior wasn't the nicest but the engine did great for commuting. I pulled a 22' boat and a 28' camper (about 7000lbs) and you definitely knew it was back there but I never felt unsafe or under powered. I averaged around 18 mpg in normal commuting as long as I kept it below 75. Pulling I averaged between 10-13 mpg. I'm not sure on newer models of the ecoboost and F150s on whether there is enough difference in MPG and towing to justify one over the other. For me, if MPG and towing or a wash, I'd probably stay with the traditional F150 instead of bringing in possible issues with the turbos, also assuming no huge price difference between the 2.

Make sure to research Cam Phaser Rattle.

I have had a 2015 since new and have had no issues. I don’t haul anything super heavy but it works fine for my needs with a small trailer and side by side. I don’t know what others get, but my MPG is only about 15 city and 18-20 highway. Not terrible, but not great either.

I put 161k miles on a 16 3.5 recently with next to no issues. Got 18.5mpg.
Had no doubt in my mind I would get another when I replaced it with a new one last week.

I’d avoid it like the plague. My wife’s expedition ended up getting a whole new engine after months of it sitting in a shop… it was eating oil like Cookie Monster.
My 2019 F150 had the cam phaser bullshite… which they fixed. Then the 10 speed tranny started acting up. I traded it for a super duty last month. We’re done with eco boost. I’ll be trading the expedition in for a Yukon before powertrain is up.

2020 3.5 - no issues at all after almost 60K. I've read about the cam phaser issue that many have mentioned but haven't had that issue with mine yet. Power, towing, and commuting are all good for me.

I have a 2017 with the 5.0 V8 and get the same mpg. Why go V6?

That's my take. the juice isn't worth the squeeze IMO.

Supposedly, the cam phaser issue was resolved before these :fingerscrossed:

2012 w/ 150k miles....zero issues
Torque curve is like a diesel... anything else will feel slow afterwards
Tuned it when the warranty ended for shits n giggles... legit
Towing MPG is awful.... 17/18 everyday, 10-12 towing

I think i have this going on right now in my 2019. Makes a rattling noise for about 5 seconds on startup. Nothing after that.
I'm having trouble finding someone to work on it for this issue.

my hunting buddy has a 2019 3.5L 60k miles and i have a 2013 5.0 220k miles. same size and brand AT tires
We tow the same trailer 3000lbs the same route very often from LA to Ms. No matter the speed we get the same MPG 10-11mpg. I get 10mpg pulling my 4000lb boat at 60mph
His around town mpg is better than mine by 2-3mpg. He did have the cam phaser issue but ford fixed that
In a race, his truck with the trailer will smoke mine without. 5.0 feels like a turd after driving his truck.

This. EB will surprise you with the towing, better than the 5.0L.
I've had two and would buy another over the 5.0L.

I had a 2017 Ecoboost and hated it. Only kept it for 6 months. Interior felt cheap, fuel mileage wasn't great, and pulling my Ranger during hunting season drained the tank quick. Averaged around 10mpg if I remember correctly. Get the V8.

And if not still under warranty, you're looking at a $3,500 repair.

I owned one of the first models. It was fun to drive, but it did not last 150k miles
