Groom dies two weeks before wedding - Venue will not refund the money SIAP

I understand them refusing to give the money back. There was a signed contract, and it was booked many months out, the venue will lose money from refunding the money and not be able to book it within two weeks (weekend night).
But, it’s hurting them in the long run. The are getting lit up on social media, etc, probably will cost them more in the long run.

The owner of the venue murdered the husband for the insurance money.

Heck no. They are loosing out on another person renting the place. I would tell family that if it gets booked, they can have a refund.

Well, he killed himself.
Sorry, view it different than some tragic death.

The couple signed a paper that says the money is not refundable.
The venue put that time and date down and didn’t plan for anyone else
So, by refunding money, the venue is losing money

A contract is a contract, but if I was the owner I’d refund the money to any family in the case of the death of the bride or groom. That’s just good business common sense and being a decent human being.
Best advice I think I’ve ever given to my son:
“The world is full of assholes. It doesn’t mean that you have to be one.”

Pretty shitty of them not to at least offer a partial refund

Lol, no. They can and will fill that slot.
They are being greedy and trying to cash an extra $30k and it will cost them in the long run

maybe, maybe not
Most of the time the persons "lighting up" social media are not ever going to be customers of the business.
You see it all the time - some restaurant in Baton Rouge does something "social media" doesn't like and the business capitulates - even though an examination of the complaints would show that the complaints were not coming from the service area of the business.

Looks like I’d be having the funeral and after party at that venue

The venue may end up losing much more from the bad PR over this.

Any links to the social media outrage? That’s where we will find the good comments.

Bride and groom choose to hold a reception there. Bride and groom sign a contract stating no refunds.
The venue holds true to the contract.
Bride (or whomever) goes on social media to tell everyone about it and whine about the contract she signed?
I blame the bride (or whomever), not the private business. Yes, it would be awesome for a business to show sympathy and take a hit, but a business is there to make money. You can’t expect a business to always take loses and always donate to causes, charity, fundraisers, etc.

I think the venue should come up with some sort of a prorated agreement out of decency where the family and the venue both recover some of the loss.

They should’ve just had the party anyway … we’ve all had that friend that’s had the prospective spouse walk out on them a few days before
