Great album. "Would" hit so hard from that album. Last album Star played on before he was fired by the band. Although, "Nutshell" is in my top 5 songs ever came from Jar of Flies.

As I got older one thing i loved about music was exploring a little more into artists' catalogs aside from jsut the megahits that get played on radio. For the longest time the only songs I knew by AIC were rooster and man in teh box.
The first time I heard Rain when I Die from dirt I was fricking floored! I frickin love that song.

The bass in that intro is strong. Then comes in the shredding by Cantrell. Great song.

Was coming here to post that today is the anniversary.
The greatest album of that genre, and maybe of the entire decade. Dirt was so influential in bridging alternative and metal, you can still hear it in modern rock even today. Solidified Jerry Cantrell as one of the great guitarists, and this was Staley at his peak (unfortunately their last full tour was supporting Dirt due to his issues).
And to the previous point, it's such a great album that everyone's favorite song wasn't even a single, but just look at the tracklist. So many classics.
1. "Them Bones"
2. "Dam That River
3. "Rain When I Die"
4. "Down in a Hole"
5. "Sickman"
6. "Rooster"
7. "Junkhead"
8. "Dirt"
9. "God Smack"
10. "Intro" (Dream Sequence)
11. "Hate to Feel"
12. "Angry Chair"
13. "Would"

Best song on Dirt (IMO)

Jar of Flies and Dirt were the two AIC albums I listened to the most growing up. They were awesome to listen to.
Completely agree probably my favorite song, especially on the nights where I would randomly joy ride at 1-2 in the morning.

They'll never snuff the Rooster.

Among the best rock records ever made. Every facet of it is absolute supremacy.

AIC is by far the best of the "grunge" bands - although to me, it was always more just metal. The production, the solos and the general focus on instrumentation.
Would? simply has to be one of the greatest songs of all time, right?
Them Bones - that crazy time signature and yet it just rocks you straight between the eyes.
Dirt - one of the most unsettling songs ever. Just make your skin crawl - in a good way.

Thats Jerry Cantrell for you, people talk about Layne and all..but I can't imagine AIC without Jerry.

Easily IMO. I probably listen to Facelift as much but Dirt seems to capture the affliction of the Seattle scene that plagued every band more than any other album.

Agreed, but I won’t flat out call it the best album of the genre. Soundgarden’s “Badmotorfinger” is neck and neck with it, imo.

Nuthsell and Don't Follow are amazing AIC songs. To me they (AIC) are the "grunge" sound. I have never been a Nirvana fan (yeah, I said it) and Soundgarden to me had a more metal sound than "grunge" e.g. Spoon Man. I too love the b side songs from most bands. Like, "Immortality" on PJ's Vitalogy is their best song to me.
