A week after big layoffs rocked the network, Kotaku has learned that Xplay host, Indiana “Froskurinn” Black, is no longer with G4. Comcast, G4's parent company, bought out the remainder of her contract, according to two sources familiar with the business. The news was announced internally by head of the network, Joe Marsh, in a town hall meeting on Tuesday morning.

“Thank you so much to @g4tv and the talented Xplay and Esports departments!” Black wrote on Twitter today. “Loved working with you guys. Gonna especially miss Gex!”

Black was one of the main hosts of Xplay alongside Jirard “The Completionist” Khalil, Corey “The Black Hokage” Smallwood, and Adam Sessler, the host of the original version of the gaming talk show during its cable TV run in the 2000s. Sessler stepped back from the program earlier this year to address family medical issues.

Black came to G4 from the League of Legends esports scene where she was a color commentator. In addition to discussing the latest news and helping review games, Black was also occasionally outspoken, especially on the misogynistic comments and harassment often leveled at the more diverse reboot of the network, including her personally. In a January episode she called out the sexist expectations and double standards of some G4 viewers in a speech that co-host Adam Sessler called one of the “most amazing things I’ve ever been part of on live TV.”

Two sources Kotaku spoke with speculated that the timing of the decision may have been related to a September 15 tweet in which Black posted a meme saying “I survived.” It was likely aimed at those who had celebrated the G4 layoffs hoping that Black would be among them, but was also interpreted by many as tone-deaf in the wake of so many losing their jobs at the network just the day before.

For those of you who don't remember, Frosk came to the forefront of controversy last year when she went on a rant about sexism in gaming. Since that moment in time, a moment G4 initially defended, the ratings have been going down the toilet. That rant is linked below:

Hated that bitch when she was a LoL caster. Thankfully she probably burned too many bridges when she left to be hired back.

G4 tried to cater to a crowd that doesn’t watch it. Sad!

Not like this, Adam. I grew up watching your reviews along with Morgan Webb.

Here's the thing she, and many others, fail to understand: computer gaming was, is and likely always will be a male's world. It doesn't mean females cannot nor should not play/enjoy games, but that males have been, are and will likely always be the majority and thus the driving force behind game-making. This becomes even more true for console and computer games (as opposed to phone games like Candy Crush).

Guys like hot women in their programming. Women like hot guys in their programming. This is why we don't see fat, ugly, balding dudes being the primary love interest of the hot, young, in-shape female lead in the Hallmark movies, soap operas nor anything on Lifetime.

So when women come into the gaming world, it's like they're showing up at the hunting camp or showing up to work on a pipeline. They're in a male's world and their presence doesn't (and shouldn't) mandate massive change simply to accommodate them. For something like gaming, where there can be a high level of anonymity, this means such a change is going to be denied, over and over. This level of anonymity means the genre can be brutal, unforgiving and always will be.

Don't like it? They can find another job, find another hobby or learn to adapt to the world (by being smarter and/or funnier) instead of stamping a foot and demanding the world adapt to them because... "victim". Doing otherwise is just wasting everyone's time.

this is well said. I invite everyone and anyone to the gaming world. love to have you. However, you cant show up to a culture and sneer and try to overturn everything. You integrate and get accepted. Of all groups this is especially true for gamers. They will chew you up and spit you out faster than anyone. If you don't like it make your own group, but history has shown us that fails because women just dont have the numbers to support a healthy (lucrative) gaming community on its own.

I've been off and on watching the new xplay. Didn't know Frosk before hand, and thought she did a decent job, not great, not the worst. Her rant though was just that, a rant. Focused on the community (consumers). You cant poke them directly in the eye and expect good things to happen. it seemed out of no where and unnecessary. I honestly hope she finds a spot somewhere and produces good content to her liking. While i can understand her frustrations, she should have had a realistic mindset of her expectations.

A lot on the gaming culture should change for the better. Women shouldn't be marginalized just because of their sex, or treated with disrespect in a work place just like any other work place. They should get a fair shake and be invited to the table. They shouldnt expect the table to be decorated just for them and cater to just their needs though. Ultimately the consumers of the industry decide what is successful or not, and right now, and likely forever, will be a male dominated thing.

So is G4 dead now or they just going to revamp after the layoffs?

Is this really an issue these days? Can you point to specific instances, events, or statistics that support that statement? I'm not poking fun at you I'm genuinely curious as to whether or not there's data to back that up, and in relation, the Marilyn Manson music video extras personal opinion.

There was a big story about how Ubisoft has absolutely refused to have a woman be it's sole protagonist, insisting on having a male option as well because women don't sell games. Aya was supposed to be a bigger part of Origins and Kassandra was supposed to be it for Odyssey.

So I can't imagine it's great for women working there as well.

It’s Ubisoft.

Nothing involved will likely turn out well. The game, the work environment, anything.

They got their crap together with the last 3 AC games, for sure. I can't speak for Watch Dogs and any of their other IP.

I prefer my game studios to exploit and abuse women both emotionally and sexually.
