Soeken IS NOT a big time pitcher. She's okay, but again not the caliber would like or expect.

That Braylen Daniels kid is really good though. That was a great grab.

Very few bigtime pitchers right out of high school, Heavener is one of them coming next yr. The rest you have to develop, Maxwell who all wanted wasn’t bigtime out of high school. Chenise Delce SEC pitcher of the yr wasn’t bigtime out of hs (went to Tulsa) but developed into 1…If Beth thinks she can develop into a very good pitcher then great!! BTW, there is another pitcher committed that throws close to 70 and ranked in the top 20…stay tuned

There are several every year. And I agree, there are always arms that develop into much better pitchers than projected for whatever reason--great coaching, later development, etc. However, the bigger programs tend to nab the already proven (on top travel ball stages) arms. Of course these same programs ALSO recruit players that may not already have the shiny resume but they see the potential in them or see what others don't see and feel they can train them and make them better or that they are on an upward trajectory. You HAVE to recruit those type of players as well, if for no other reason than the fact that 12 scholarships (and the new money some schools can give) only takes you so far and they have to fill out their teams. I think most people's point here isn't that they should not take players that are not big names or that those players won't end up panning out, but that they should be securing the bigger ticket players too!! The big ticket kids tend to be brought into visits earlier.

Just saw another pitcher was committed. Ashlin Mowery. Sounds like a promising arm despite not being one of the better known arms out there.

COMMITS HERE:

Ashlin Mowery: Pitcher with Ohio Hawks. Not familiar with player. Ohio Hawks runs decent program and she seems to be a pretty good pick up from what can be gauged on social media.

LINK

Braelyn Daniels: CATCHER: Nice size, athletic player with a big bat. Played with Bombers org and watched by a lot of coaches.

LINK

Lauryn Soeken: PITCHER: Decent pitcher but not one of the proven variety and played 16U ball this past year. Plays with Impact Gold organization.

LINK

Cali Deal: Lefty PITCHER from LA. Not a top end pitcher but great size and might develop into a good pitcher.

LINK

Gradie Appling: Athletic middle and utility.

that's because she was hurt during high school due to overuse and had to redshirt her freshman year.

That is what I recall about Maxwell as well. Think she missed a full year. She was with the now defunct Aces Express travel club and was a pretty well respected pitcher in high school in Texas. Either in or near Houston.

I was coming to ask a question that this answers. I don't proactively follow softball recruiting, but my twitter feed seems to have blown up lately with softball commits.

It goes to show how big a home football game is for the whole athletic department. We got a couple football commits, a couple baseball commits, a basketball commit, and 4 softball commits since the Auburn game.

And it wouldn't happen if all the programs weren't on the same page. It has to help all the sports that they're all bringing in their top targets at the same time.

Agree that would be nice to at least know starting lineup and if multiple pitchers.

The social media team for softball is asleep, entire purpose of twitter is to inform, highlight current players and the most important part is to drive recruiting 24/7…They don’t realize recruiting is every day all day….

I wonder if that is a Beth choice. Just following things like media day press conferences and the few quotes she gives after games it seems like she doesn't value or put any stock in providing info to reporters/social media.

I didn't go... I went to Walkons to watch the Astros. This would have been a perfect day to go with no distractions behind the plate.
