Saban would not have been as successful at L S U as he has been at Alabama because L S U has never had and still doesn't have the well organized and sophisticated system for buying players that Alabama has had since the Bear Bryant days. As in everything, practice makes perfect and Alabama is the best in the country at that.

More like Saban, had he stayed at LSU, wouldn't ben Bama-level Saban b/c of what he learned in the NFL. He came back a different coach with a better understanding of football without being over-reliant on "his system". Even 2004 started showing cracks in the blitz-heavy system Saban had attached his mindset towards.

Kelly's never been a good enough coach to sniff the NFL, so he's never had the opportunity to have to compete at a higher coaching level and change/develop.

This. Two things happened. Saban’s failure in the NFL fueled him and our administration and politicians would’ve found a way to mess it up. You can shite on Alabama all you want, but that program and the power players in the shadows all run in unison.

I say 1 championship (if lucky) and 2 football playoffs appearances, in 10 years.

I think we’ll be very successful under Kelly and compete for championships every year and make the 12 team playoff more often than not.

Winning a title is very hard to do though.

I think my favorite part of the BK hire is knowing we’ll have a strong, process driven program that will be in great shape for the next guy as well. We won’t have a disaster rebuild. He’s very, very detailed oriented, recruits character as much as skill, and preaches accountability to not just players but all employees in the program.

It’ll be a program we can be proud of.

lol what a shitty take about Kelly. Saban had previous stints in the league and was long thought to have that itch.
It’s not like he was plucked from college bc of his tactical genius. He was widely known to be an NFL guy at heart until he failed miserably. Bama was the beneficiary.

We get it you don’t like Kelly but you don’t have to be disingenuous about it.

We will never know but I’ll bet pre NFL Saban wouldn’t take a school like cincy to an orange bowl. Hell he had one good year in 5 at Michigan state prior to coming to LSU

Let’s be honest. Nobody has any idea what will come in the future with this new LSU coach!!! Sit back and enjoy the journey!

I know we played southern, but we still scored more points in the first quarter than we have in our HISTORY. We've played similarly mismatched games with less impressive results in the past.

I'd be thrilled with 1 or two with the changes due to NIL and parity it will bring. I want to believe!!!

It will take at least til year 3 to compete for the division. So take 2 years out of that. Do you sincerely think he will win 4-6 in 8 years? I don't see that. 2-3 is possible. Still would be better than most programs in history to win 2-3 in 10 years of a tenure. 4-6 is you seeing the world thru purple and gold glasses.

Saban didn't fail miserably in the NFL, wtf. The dolphins went 4-12 the season before he came and 1-15 the year after he left.

And he kicked arse at Michigan State considering the sanctions they were under and they hadn't had a winning season in 5+ years before he got there.

Kelly is a decent coach but FFS he's still never won a BCS game and he is stubborn as a mule with shitty assistant coaches.

Product of era. The college to N.F.L. coaching pipeline of the early 2000s hadn’t existed in a long time. Kelly gets a shot if he’s coaching at ND in 2002 with the same success he had.

The NFL model has always baffled me. GM hires a coach but still picks players based on his pov and not always the coaches. Owners can also be controlling and throw everything for a loop.
