The City should not let the cops control it.
Find the smartest traffic engineer in the country and make him/her/them the traffic czar. Let them observe traffic flow via helicopter, video, etc. for a few games and then devise a plan to best empty the lots. Implement it.
LSU already did that, though I guess I don’t know if it was the smartest traffic engineer in the country.
TAF hired an outside firm to do a traffic study a few years back. I’m sure there have been some changes to the roads in the area since then, but I’m fairly certain it was after the south upper deck opened at least.
Somebody in one of the other threads posted this link from 2014:
Officials implementing new traffic plan for Saturday’s LSU game
It’s certainly possible that the plan just didn’t work. But keep in mind that LSU doesn’t have full control of everything with regards to traffic management - they are at the mercy of the city/parish (to an extent).
But probably more importantly, LSU relies on law enforcement to actually execute the traffic plan. I thought this quote from the 2014 article was interesting:
quote:
More than 200 officers from a variety of agencies, including 169 from the Baton Rouge Police Department, will be on hand.
The entire plan was heavily reliant on BRPD for execution. I’m curious how much that has changed given BRPD’s staffing woes the past few years.
My guess is there’s probably plenty of blame to go around. Particularly if nobody was enforcing permits in the paid lots. You would think that responsibility would fall on LSU regardless.

On Saturday there was either something wrong with the communication of the traffic plan or the plan itself was idiotic, at least for the Levee/Alex Box lots. The cop in our lot initially said he was following orders which is why our exit was blocked but then changed course and started letting people out.

The cop blocking one of the roads leading to Nicholson on River Road was asleep leaning against his car

Yes, but that was his orders

It happens almost every home game, every year, since I’ve been alive.

out. I took River Road to Ben Hur and turned right on Nicholson to drop my cousin off at his house in Pelican Lakes. Took Burbank to Essen and then to the interstate. I was home across the river in 45 minutes from getting to my truck
My man that’s a 45 minute drive without traffic and zero stops lol.

Feel like the easy solution to this is to give the project to aspiring traffic engineers in the civil engineering department at LSU. Free and they actually would understand traffic flows and all that.

Stayed for 2+ hours and were up by 40 in the second quarter to a team we should never be playing.

Yeah, but they don't let you go left off of Highland leaving via that route with contraflow. Since you have two lanes of contraflow on Highland, seems that (Highland to Stanford) would be a good route to take some of the pressure off of Lee/College
Yes but then you are forcing those that enter Stanford from Lakeshore into one lane.
Burbank should be the option for those on highland. Make it four lanes of contraflow up to college and have cops stationed to keep the green lights going at Brubank/college...Burbank/Essen...Burbank/Bluebonnet... College (all intersections til I-10)

I just drive through anything blocking the way and floor it home

LSU has only been playing football in Tiger Stadium for almost 100 years. Yet, the school, city and police act like it was a shock traffic was heavy
You left out the fans.

We tried the same route - stuck on Ben Hur for 45-minutes to an hour. We thought it would start moving and never did. Finally, found a spot to turn around and went back to River Road to casino.

I don't get how this is an excuse. There were fewer people on campus and in the stadium than for a major SEC game. Not to mention plenty of people left at half time.
I don't think so. The north side of campus was packed. And it's absolutely an excuse All those Southern folks drove to the game so there were a shite ton more cars on campus than a regular gameday.

you're starting from the false premise that LSU actually gives a rat's arse
Posted on 9/13/22 at 2:25 pm to Byrdybyrd05
Well it shouldn’t. The broadcasters brought it up multiple times during game. Had to feel like a black eye
Posted on 9/13/22 at 2:31 pm to Byrdybyrd05
Before they can solve the problem they must first identify exactally what the problem is. Last week probably broke a record for the most people driving to campus from elsewhere in Baton Rouge. Let's see what happens this week at which will be a big but not gigantic SEC game.

Alignment means traffic plans and cops, too

I know people always throw up the "well it was 200,000 people" thing. And yes, that's true. But I seem to recall the setup to get out made so much more sense during my entire childhood up until about ten years ago. They used to contraflow to the interstate and then it was fend for yourself at that point. They need to do the same thing with every outlet. To I-10, going East towards St. Gabriel on Hwy 30, Highland, etc. That's the way it used to be. Yes it was a pain in the arse for folks who didn't go to the game and had to get somewhere that night at the time the game let out, but we were able to make plans accordingly. There should not be any working traffic signals along the entire route out (including Burbank). Get everybody out first, and then you can put things back to normal. It's not rocket science.
