Hated the show. Buncha smarmy northerners, bitchy grandmother, the mom is less mature than the kid.

When the girl grew up and appeared on Mad Men, tho...nice. (She's Pete Campbell's wife IRL)

She was a sweet girl the first 3-4 seasons. I didn’t blame her for choosing bad boy Jess over Dean’s boring arse in high school but she went off the rails after they did that whole Dean affair and then even worse when they had her take a pause from Yale. The only good thing about season 7 was Olivia

It is insufferable.

I watched the early years but Rory became more and more insufferable as she got older. Eventually I couldn’t take it anymore and stopped watching.

Have 4 actually. And they all, at least occasionally, shut the frick up and allow for a pause in between lines of dialogue.

My wife just binged it this summer.
I sat and watched with her when I wasn't working.

It reminded me of the Simpsons with about 20 Easter eggs per episode. It was very New England / Boston writing with the wit and banter.

That said... I dont like shows about bad people. And they treated people like shite. Maybe that is why it was interesting for women (if they were decent, it wouldn't be a show).

I didn't mind the show. "It could be worse" up until that reprisal (10 years later) which absolutely was worse.

Just went through Gilmore The Merrier while we were both sick over Thanksgiving. Just posting to point out two things. Emily Gilmore was just a terrible, horrible human being despite having a few great moment. And, whomever chose the music has great taste. I mean, There She Goes is in episode 1. Happy Kid by Nada Surf is in there. When Sebastian Bach auditions for the band, they are playing The Jesus and Mary Chain. So many more.

I remember hearing Tiny cities Made of Ashes by Modest Mouse coming from Lane’s room randomly in one episode. so good.

My wife puts this show on Netflix when she just has the need to have something on in the background.

It's impossible not to notice this immediately. Each episode I think could be at least 10 minutes longer if they ever stopped for a breath

The scripts must be massive.

That meme is the reason we get characters like Beth Dutton. Lots of writers think this way.

Some don't. But every woman thinks this way. Ever been sitting there, minding your own business, then all of a sudden your wife says, "Well, are you gonna answer me?"

She wasn't even talking.

I’ve never turned this show on on my own but I do get sucked into it when my wife has it on. It’s part nostalgia because I watched it as an appeasement method in college when we were dating but I’ve also come to kind of enjoy it as a character study of piss poor parenting/grand parenting no matter how much money is thrown at the issues. Also, I don’t think this show exists in any other seasons except Fall and an occasional Winter (which is kind of an appealing aesthetic)

I guess that's why I can't stand to listen to the show, I need a break in between sentences consisting of unimportant nonsense.

I put this to the test. Randomly selected S2E1.

It’s true. Virtually non stop yammering.

Same. My wife hates that show bc they talk so fast and so much. She'll start screaming at me if the channel even stops on that show when its on.

Everything about it was geared toward the psyche of a woman and the most captivating piece of it was so maddening to me until I came to understand it. And once I understood, I saw the light and began to feel the power of it as well.
