I was out in downtown Baton Rouge the night he died. We were bar hopping and I got the DJ to play "He stopped loving her today" in each bar we went to. I was shocked though that every DJ said "who?" when I told them GJ died.

It was like those YouTube videos where some rapper listens to Metallica for the first time. People were all "who is this? He's good."

Upon finally completing recording "He Stopped Loving Her Today", which took longer than it should have because Jones was a drunken mess and absolutely hated the song, George would say, "Nobody'll buy that morbid son-of-a-bitch."

Saw the possum perform live on Rayne High School football field in May of '02. Great show.

You sure that wasn't Kaplan High for Sam Jam put on by Sammy Kershaw? Seems like I remember seeing George Jones, David Allan Coe, Ronnie Milsap, Sammy, and a few others around 2002 there.

Anybody know where this was? Somewhere in Louisiana. Looks awesome. Everyone seated and drinking. No one holding up a cell phone.

I believe that’s from Carencro. George Jones married a woman from there and lived in the area for awhile. In another video from the show, he says something about being in Carencro.

He was also married to my stepdad's aunt from around Zwolle from 1983 until he passed. Her name was Nancy Sepulvado. She's the one that eventually got him to quit drinking.

That was the show, I thought it was Rayne High but it may have been Kaplan, time has not been kind to my memory.
