Hunter-harvested unprocessed wild game bird meat/carcasses, originating from or transiting Canada, will not be permitted to enter the United States regardless of the Canadian province from which the bird was harvested. APHIS is aware of the impact this will have on hunting season and will provide updates if new information is received.

I guess we can’t shoot birds coming from Canada? Silliness at large.

About to go throw some heaters in a few holes in the wax. About to be sportsman’s paradise again baws!

So you can still bring the meat home? Am I reading that right?

Yes. Can bring fully processed meat. No carcass. So if you are getting one mounted it Hass to be fully finished

Don't birds fly? Across borders?
This seems very reactionary.

I don't think so. Meat/carcass sounds like cleaned birds will not be allowed across.

You have never been able to go up, hammer 100 mallards, make them into jerky/snack sticks, and bring them across the border. FWS wants to see your ducks with at least one wing still attached to prove that you have no more than 3x the daily bag limit in possession. How do you get around that with jerky?

56 posts = fbi plant probably. After annual shoots of Canadian geese in port lavaca, it seems that it is no longer possible. Thats another reasons to not buy the 24$ duck stamp this year.

Sigh. This country is lost.

Its not really going to change much, its just a dumb arse rule.
I know a guy that goes up there for about 2 weeks and they will often kill over 500 birds, they give almost all of them away. Now they will just give literally all of them away.
It sucks for a hunter that wants some meat to bring home, but you just eat what you can there and give the rest away. No ones eating 20 birds a day limit anyway.

However, the new guy Aggie that’s in to camping and hiking vs stacking dead game animals is highly sus.

With pressure from Delta Waterfowl and Ducks Unlimited, it looks like the USDA is reversing their stance on this immediately.

yes, you can bring just the meat home. Not a plucked carcass with bones.

Stupid new law. I’ve hunted up there once and it was awesome. No way I’d go back and shoot a lot of birds and not be able to bring meat home. Just not ethical for me just to shoot ducks for the sport.

I’m glad I went in 2019 before Canada went full covid nanny crazy.
Had a great time. Probably won’t ever make it back, too many other places to go.

Seems this law would mean less birds shot up north and more make their way down here? If you’re looking for a positive

We brought some home - a few mallards and specklebellies but we gave most of the birds to the Mennonites
