Has always been a great spot to catch some A/C, restroom for the girls especially, and watch football. I figured closures in past couple seasons were due to staffing problems. Apparently this is an intentional decision by LSU having to do with “incidents” in the past? Good grief. Maybe Im getting old but it feels like LSU is just begging me to stay home and not attend games.

What incidents? I used to hit the union in between tailgates if they didn't have TVs at the ones I was going to to catch some games. LSU continues its slide each year.

ETA: also was always solid to be able to grab Panda Express or chic fil a again if a tailgate didn’t exactly light the world on fire food wise.

PMAC will open at 5 hours to kickoff this season for restroom access, other game viewing and watching the Golden Band after they come down victory hill.

WTF I thought that was just during covid.

The union has always been one of the main places to go for restrooms and to eat - chick fil a, papa John’s etc.

The Pmac is just supposed to be for alumni/TAF

First I am hearing of it.. but I can see why.. in the last 5 or so years the Union had become a huge hangout for HS kids.. so with that came underage drinking and fights.. I am sure the campus police would rather not deal with that.. Personally I always liked a pit stop at the Union when the kids were younger, but there is still the Bookstore and other spots close enough to campus to get out the heat if need be

In most cases, this is the better option

Sounds like LSU administration is lazy and uncreative.

The LSU union should be an on campus embassy to promote LSU to visiting fans and LSU fans alike.

Its sad how we lose good Louisiana students to other state universities because LSU shows barely any effort.

Student Union on gameday

lots of great memories spent at the SU. Perhaps the older folks remember these as well. My grandfather would take me to every home game from when I was around 6 yrs old to 13 yrs old ... mid 70's to around 1982. The drive was US 61 - Airline Hwy to BR. Once a year we'd stop at the Snake Farm since I thought it was cool. We always parked by the bowling alley side of the Union. Pre-game meal was at the SU cafeteria where I would always order 2 pcs. of fried chicken, mac n cheese, slice of pecan pie, and 2 chocolate milks. The serving line was like a Piccadilly where you get a tray and they serve your plate as you choose from the food options. Post meal we would check out the art galleries, walk around the bookstore, and watch televised CFB games in the various Union ballrooms. There was no ESPN so it was usually ABC coverage with Keith Jackson calling the mid-day Big Ten or Big 8 games. We walk under the oaks and go see Mike at his old habitat cage then proceed to our seats ... 30 yd line, 20 rows up, on the visitors side. Post-game I would walk down behind the visitors bench and ask for the tear away jerseys. I remember getting James Brooks (AUB) #21 jersey. Other memory was the Noel "Butch" Baum advertising on top of the scoreboards

walking to and from the Stadium always seemed like it was 10 city blocks to an 8-year old. Later attending LSU as a student I realized it was only 3 blocks

They just don’t want to deal with any incidents or problems.

When the bowling alley was still there we'd bowl all morning in AC to pregame for the tailgate that afternoon. They got rid of it during remodel around 2006-ish, I believe.

I don't know why, but whatever reason we have is dumb. No reason to close down the Union on gamedays.

We complain on here about stuff like LSU fans leaving at halftime but the reality is the university has inconvenienced the fanbase so much that all the diehards no longer go to the games. Now you get a bunch of fairweathers who just want a quick casual something to do on weekend and aren't really involved with the games anyway. The university is partly responsible for killing gameday atmosphere and why this fanbase is a shell of what it use to be.

Another screw the average fan move. The Union was my go to spot for cooling off during hot early games, dropping a solid duece in peace and relative comfort, lurking on young girls, lurking on the moms of young girls and napping off my early buzz. My season is ruined
