Who was the one that got away?
Heh, heh, heh... She only thought she got away.
When I was 14 years old, I had it bad for this cute girl that played flute in our HS band. She was a year older than me but she let me sit with her at lunch. So, in my best voice (hill-billy accent and all) I ask her, "Melissa, what've ah gotta to ta git you ta merry me?"
She answered, "Grow two feet taller than me." She was 5'-3" and I was all of 4'-9" at the time.
It looked like it wasn't meant to be. She dated other guys throughout high school, but as far as I was concerned, she was my girlfriend the whole time. I was the only one who knew it though.
We were good friends through those years. I'd make sure I was on the same bus as her when we'd travel with the band to games and competitions. Got to sneak a kiss from her once in one of those "truth or dare" gatherings at the back of the bus on those long trips, too!
She graduated and moved to Pittsburgh and then Atlanta. I graduated the following year and left Kentucky for LSU. We'd write back and forth on occasion, and she'd mention she had watched the LSU game (if it had been on TV) and looked for me in the band. Said she always thought about me when LSU was on or whenever she heard a trumpet.
Over time, the letters slowed and eventually stopped. We drifted apart as such things tend to do. I finished college and got into construction management, traveling a lot and building malls, shopping centers, a couple Disney projects, a few condos. . .
Out of the blue one evening I get a call from her. She and one of our other friends from those days way back in high school were coming to Florida and she had heard that's where I was living at the time. She wanted to know if we could meet up in Orlando for a day. She was recently divorced and I was still single at thirty-two.
Things went pretty well and we had a great time together. I wasn't quite two feet taller than her. I was six-foot-zero and she was still five-foot-three, but she made an exception. Thirteen months later we were married.
She was almost the one that got away, but it worked out quite nicely in the end. I don't think I'd change a thing either.
There are a lot of details that go into the telling of that story, but Chicken only has so much bandwidth available for this site, and I could use every bit of it up just for this story alone (from start to finish).
Just a little something to think about for you single guys who think about "the one that got away" - It's entirely possible that she's still around somewhere waiting on a phone call. Who knows? It's possible. I've seen it happen.

Could’ve popped my cherry at 18 with this girl from high school. I was a clueless loser. She won’t add me on social media. She’s still mad 23 years later.

She almost got away, but now I pull a bill gates and go on private vacations with her.
Its done wonders for my physical and mental health. Probably added at least 20 years to my life.
Im sure Jody is waiting in the bushes for when I leave the wife but that's just the cost of doing business.

I very easily could’ve banged this hot Vietnamese chick freshman year of college when she kept bugging me to come help her study for some history of rock class we were in. I was so dumb back then fml

I was messing around on Jen with this hot/crazy named Angie. Got caught with hand in cookie jar and went on to marry Angie.
Now I have all these kids and Angie is suing me over my wine business. Fawkin sucks!

KH, first Latina I dated. We dated for 6 months. Really into physical touch, adventurous yet a homebody, passionate, great cook, supportive and knew how to take care of a house and a man.
Downfall was her family moving to TX, I was 24, she was 23. She was close to her family so she didn’t even think twice about staying.
I love my life now, but I do every so often think what my life would be like if I had taken a leap of faith and moved to TX with her 8 years ago.

I escaped TN to move to TX. The only thing that sucks is not being near family, but I don’t miss a darn thing about that state otherwise lol.
Is she fat right now because they can really balloon suddenly past the age of 18.

This Scandinavian gal I met whilst in Europe was a legit OT 9+. We kicked it for a week while I was in her country and got to”know” each other. She wanted to continue the relationship internationally but at the time I wasn’t ready to commit to that. About a year later I found myself in Europe again and contacted her. She was in a relationship and didn’t want to communicate any further.
But my wife is amazing and beautiful and we have a fulfilling family life together, so I’m not upset I missed the ball.
