Now I really didn't want to use this as an excuse whatsoever, but a fact is a fact after the fact here.
Last night should finally bring in the last of us (including me) about the importance of a warm up game.
As disgusting of a game that it was last night, we should all realize that it wasn't necessarily the PISS POOR QB Play, TERRIBLE OLine Play, POUTY WRs, NON EXISTANT LBs or the Fact that Florda State was 75% on 3rd down conversions(Mostly over the damn middle) that lost this game Oh no.
It was the Fact we screwed the pooch bigtime on what most (including myself) consider the easiest positions on the field and on our PATHETIC Special teams.
Against a team like Duquesne, we would have figured out a return specialist(who could catch) and a Kicker(who could kick & elevate). These games give those specialists players confidence which is what was/is needed to be successful at those positions.
Now if that shitshow happens and both teams are on their very first game so be it, but allowing teams to squeak in a game before we play like we have the last 2 years needs to be a hard lesson for us to learn but we need to be done.
No more of this bullshite and being taken advantage of and getting embarrassed first week.

Florida state is a warm up game. They aren’t good.

They played Duquesne. We could get as much of a warmup asking the Student Body to field a team.

Florida State had special teams issues in their first game, but was able to address them. That was the difference last night. However, both teams really did not look very good.

Have we ever won a big opener when the other team had an opener.

At Va Tech - under Saban, they had a warm up.

vs. Tennessee - Katrina happened but they had a warm up.

at UCLA - warmup

FSU - warmup.

I don’t think we’ve ever won when the other team has a warmup. We definitely don’t have the special teams miscues and some of the OL problems if we have a warmup last night.

Here’s a more obvious one: get Malik Nabors off of punt return duty.

Yeah I realize they aren't good either but against even a bad Florida State team there wasn't enough room for error in it to make those mistakes. That's my point.

For the love of God, this had no affect on the game last night. We had the advantage of only having to prepare for one team during camp. They had to prepare for two, and spend most of their time worrying about St Mary’s for the blind. Our intersquad scrimmages are more of a warmup than FSU playing whoever they did.

Same thing happened to Saban when we played VTech. It always helps to play a warmup game to fine tune your game. This was not a warmup game for LSU.

I will take things you learn in a warm-up game for $800 Alex.

you can tell by how much better LSU played in the 2nd half how important real gameplay is and why having what amounts to a preseason game is important

not to mention brian kelly's notre dame team had to go to 3OT to beat FSU last year

I'd like to know how Polien still has a job this morning.
Special teams cost us the victory, even with all the other shortcomings, we would have won if special teams were adequate.

Another thing I’d like to hear explained better is why we feel a one read Daniels is better than a very athletic Nuss. Nuss has an extremely quick release and quick feet to boot and will utilize “all” skill players even if first guy is covered.
Myles would have been injured by week 3 with this line. He looks smarter by the day.

I’m getting tired of the Rant narrative that we want to blame this on a warm up game.

LSU sucked in All aspects of the game last night.

Offense couldn’t block, bad snaps, QB wouldn’t make his reads to open receivers.

Defense couldn’t stop anyone. McNeese transfer is our starter at DBU.

Special Teams cost us the game. 2 muffs. 1 shank. 2 blocks.

Penalties and bad body language. This team looked bad. Warm up doesn’t fix all of that.

Despite the down votes you got, you are ONE BILLION percent right. If we played Southern in week 0, we win last night.

Oh, and long term with BK at the helm, we will win Natty's again. A lot of people don't realize how bad Orgeron ffed us, and both he and Gomer Pyle less miles STILL won big here.
