Abscessed lung when I was 17 with a 8-9 day stay in the hospital. Jesus...that was awful.

Week after back surgery developed blood clot in leg, threw some to my lung as well. Spent 11 days in hospital bed unable to get up.

I got food poisoning from a friends parents Mardi Gras tailgate when I was at LSU. I locked myself in his upstairs bathroom for a good 24 hours evacuating every liquid in my body from both ends. I suspect it was the oysters that did me in because 2 other guys got food poisoning that night as well. We concluded the oysters were the common thing we all ate. I will never forget laying naked in my friends tub praying for death when another guy comes running in to start violently vomiting and shitting his brains out. All I could do was pull the shower curtain closed and pray for deaths sweet embrace. That is a night I will never forget

Food poisoning from a seafood restaurant in Biloxi. As another poster said, death would have been welcomed.

Had a stroke about three years ago. Spent a week in ICU as result and had to learn how to talk again over the next 5 months. The craziest thing about it is, I never felt the slightest bit sick.

Food poisoning. On the couch for a week. Fluids coming out of both ends at the same time in the beginning and then shortly after drinking water to stay hydrated. You have to stay hydrated at all costs. Delirious with fever.

I went from a healthy 11 yr old to almost dead in two weeks. Crazy how your health can just change on a dime. Enjoy it while you can.

Liver, Kidneys, Pancreas all shut down. 3 weeks in ICU with 4.5 months in the hospital then another 2 months of bed rest at home. They didn't let me eat for a solid 2.5 months, they would give me calories through an IV. When they did let me start eating it was like starting with a popsicle for a week, then broth for WEEKS. That was miserable.

Malaria. Took me out for over a week. If I had made my flight to Europe before collapsing, doctors said I likely would have died on the plane.

Without question food poisoning from the casino in Marksville. Everything in me came up and I could not get anything down. It was as if all my body would do is allow me to sleep, but the times I woke up I felt absolutely horrible. If it wasn't for Pedialyte I would have had to go to the hospital.

A diabetic ketoacidosis episode where my blood sugar rocketed to almost 1900. Got a nice ambulance ride and spent five days recuperating in the hospital. Could have been worse, I could have slipped quietly into a diabetic coma and drifted away peacefully.
