It's voluntary, and for only a few hours of the day. Zero EVs in california will have to remain parked as a result of this.

You are missing the point. They are not allowing more power plants to be built. They are phasing out ICE car sales. They are banning NG in new construction in a lot of municipalities. If you are seeing brown outs now for a few hours. What the hell do you think will happen 10 years from now………

Cali has no plan other then go green….. even if going green means shifting from NG stoves/ovens/heaters/water heaters to coal produced electric appliances.

CA is going to be an interesting energy experiment the next decade or so. I hope they do transition to all renewables.

Man, I'm sure glad I live close to a nuclear plant and two hydroelectric dams.

Water and electricity are the least of my worries

Stupid asses can't keep their citizens' A/Cs going but insist on adding millions of EVs to their already overburdened grid.

Retards one and all.

A few hours while you are at home working in the heat. Sounds like fun.

Now, imagine California in a few years with all the daily EV charging going on after people are forced to buy them.

6 cars on rapid Tesla chargers use close to 500KVA when being charged simultaneously.

A 50KVA transformer would normally power 4-5 homes in a typical Louisiana neighborhood. Let’s say it’s 4, so that’s the equivalent of 40 homes worth of peak demand during that instant.

In the context of his off grid comment, obviously he was talking about domestic solar production.

That's just dumb.

Forcing solar and EVs IS government control, dummy.

I have no problem with either, its the central planning that always fails, that's the issue here.

The more central planning you have, the more rationing and shortages you will have.

Californians will never learn.

They won't have to worry about this once they stop selling vehicles powered by fossil fuels. After that, temperatures will never go above 80 nor below 45 (except in the mountains, where only the powderiest snow will fall), crime will fall, homeless addicts will get clean and become productive members of society and earthquakes will stop.

I love that the energy companies get to say, hey mr customer, i don't have the infastructure to support your energy demands, so please don't use too much during this time of peak demand.

How about you actually do your fricking job and add on to your plant if you can't support your customer base. And if you can't afford to do so, then maybe you shouldn't be in charge of the power plant and it needs to go up for sale to another company who has the money to support that plants customer base's energy demands.
We pay for energy use. Don't tell me what i can and can't use.
