Friday night I had quite the scare; around 1030 PM I woke my wife up because I felt like I couldn't breathe, and I was certain I was having a heart attack. She called the ambulance, and it took them like 20 minutes to get there. During that time, I was just sitting on the ground against our sofa, just thinking the whole time that I was gonna croak before the ambulance arrive. Once they arrived, they checked my blood pressure and did an EKG (I think) and determined that it was not a heart attack, but pretty much insisted I go on to the hospital anyway, which I agreed with.

Long story short, hospital confirmed it was not a heart attack and said it must've been a panic attack. I've had issues with anxiety all my life, but never have had anything like this happen to me. I'm 37 years old. Anybody ever have an emergency room run due to a panic attack? Honestly it's pretty embarrassing, and I'm not sure what to do next. My wife seems to think it was a seizure, but I'm leaning more towards panic attack.

You need to see a professional.

Therapist or psychiatrist that could prescribe you medication if you need it.

Tell us about your current life with the following:

1) Do you consume caffeine on a regular basis?
2) Do you exercise on a regular basis?
3) What sort of foods do you eat regularly?
4) Are you on any medications?

This looks way different from a panic attack IMO. Seems like you had a panic attack.

If you’re already taking anything for anxiety, have you been regular taking medicine or changed anything ? That’s where I would look first. If not, I’d see a doctor and get their advice quick.

Yep, fought them for a longggg time..

In my opinion, there are a lot of lifestyle choices that lead to this, and I’m not dismissing what you feel at all, I know the feeling and how scary it is… I was medicated for a few years, didn’t like the person I was becoming because of it and weened myself off of it. Everyone’s situation is different and I hope you can find out exactly what is happening to you and why

My best advice, try to avoid medication and instead, fix the underlying issues that are causing the stress and anxiety

Your sleep apnea kicked in and you stopped breathing then you natural "fight or flight" instinct kicked in

Klonopin will make these go away.

But yea I remember my first couple of panic attacks. I was convinced I was going to die. After a while you develop coping mechanisms and become self aware of what is happening.

Nah. Medical issues should never be embarrassing. WGAF what anybody else thinks. Do what you gotta do to take care of yourself.

BTW, if you smoke marijuana quit as soon as possible.

Marijuana was the root cause of my panic attacks. After I quit getting high everyday, my panic attacks stopped.

I have. Had to get a shot of Ativan. Talk to your general practitioner and maybe seek counseling if it continues. I’ve been in counseling a few months for anxiety, and it’s been life changing.

I had almost the identical thing happen to me when I was your age. I thought for sure I was going to die. Went to ER and after several tests (EKG and bloodwork), doctor said it was a panic attack. I changed my lifestyle by exercising more, eating right and replaced alcohol with the endorphins from the exercise.
I personally would try this before medication (prescribed or self-medication) if possible. I think you will be fine.
Good luck.
