That's the most violent looking waterspout I've ever seen from down there

Pretty sweet tornadic waterspout. Much stronger than your aptly named non-tornadic waterspouts.

Absolutely filthy. You can see the mesocyclone rotating in this video.

There have been a couple in that area the last few days and just like the people in Metarie have learned, they can and do come ashore at times.

Its wild because they usually aren't even tornado warned, you can be chilling at a bar and one can just go cruising by like its no big deal.

how big of a boat would you need to drive thru that waterspout at 40 mph?

Bigger than the Orca, that's for sure.

Based on your link, this waterspout was spotted in Destin/Miramar Beach area, so yes you said "off Florida's 30-A" when you meant Destin.

That waterspout looks just like a tornado over water.

What is the difference between a waterspout and a tornado besides their location?

It's my understanding is that waterspouts die quickly once they reach land so it seems they are getting their energy from the water.

Energy is always relieved by a differential gradient. Power is the measure of the time frame at which the energy is relieved. The shorter the time frame the more power.

My question is what is the differential gradient in waterspouts versus tornadoes? Dry air versus humid air? Temperature gradient?

Probably a question for the OT weather experts.
