What the heck is the Dallas Alumni Association doing?

We have a huge Alumni base in Dallas but I swear the alumni association is doing everything it can to get away from its base and be as difficult as possible.
1. They totally watered down the crawfish boil. It was at this random sports bar warehouse thing that barely had any room outside. A crawfish boil that is 80% inside at a venue that doesn’t even cater to the type of event it is supposed to be. No live music, no Louisiana flare, just tables inside of a big generic bar. It used to be an awesome event…
2. They change up watch party venues like every freaking year. I just got the email about the new watch party location and it’s at this “Interactive Sports Entertainment facility”. YouTube video of place.
Yea because what I want to do while watching an LSU game is be surrounded by people throwing axes, hitting in a batting cage, and taking golf lessons, really the vibe I’m going for.
Oh by the way this place is in LEWISVILLE a whopping 22 miles from the center of Dallas and a 30+ minute drive from the parts of the city most people want to hang out for games.
All of this while they already have the perfect place to watch games at Dodies Reef on Greenville which is right where everyone goes to hang out. It’s literally a Louisiana/LSU themed sports bar/restaurant right in the heart of Dallas in Lower Greenville. They left Dodies a few years back because they got in an argument with the owner or something like that. What’s funny is Dodies still does LSU watch parties and they are infinitely more fun than the one the Alumni Association does, and they are actually in Dallas, what a concept!
Anyway, if anyone on this board is also a member of the association I’d love to know what you think, better yet if anyone here is leadership team I’d love to know what the hell you guys are thinking.

Alumni association people are the same as HOA/school PTA members. Just avoid them.

I was in the association board for years and helped plan the crawfish boil and watch party locations. When I left, we had several locations and a great outdoor venue with a large indoor area for eating and blind auctions. Unfortunately, a lot of people left around the same time I did and there are fewer people on the board who either know how or have the time to work with multiple locations for watch parties. There are also issues that pop up with local bar partnerships as some no longer want to host or stop offering gameday specials. There was also an issue with suburban locations having small attendance so it wasn’t worth it for the bars.
I can’t remember why they scaled back the crawfish boil as much as they did. I wasn’t on the board when that decision was made but I’m guessing it was money and management. I worked my arse off with several other people to make the larger venue happen. It brought in good money but it was a multi-person full time job and many on the board are also employed.
Please provide feedback on your issues as I know those emails are read and discussed at meetings. I just couldn’t invest that much time and energy anymore once my son started playing sports in middle school.

Here's their chapter site which has the contact info for their chapter president. I think you'd have better luck contacting him directly but that's just me.

This is why I stopped going. Meanwhile Bama gets an uptown bar that's packed and is in area close to go out after the game.

I will agree that they are definitely missing the mark. Any place that is advertising for corporate events is not the place to host an lsu sports watch party.
That being said, leaving Dodies was sad but necessary decision. Since the original owners, the McGuinness family, sold it to Mark Buntin, a Austin guy with no LSU or Louisiana ties, Dodies Reef has gone down hill food wise, and they stopped giving LSU events preferential treatment.
Dibs on Victory had a great watch party set up so I’m sad to see them leave there, but I def won’t be driving to Lewisville.

Dodie’s sucks now. Food isn’t that good. TVs rarely work on the roof, overpriced drinks. Just hit up Dibs like the rest of us.
Eta: week 1 of the 2019 season, we watched the game on the rooftop. All the tvs except one were broken. We went back for the bama game because surely they got new tvs or fixed the broken ones in two months right? Nope. Also, the sound was shotty the entire time.
Went for a Saints game last year, same shite, different day. Place sucks

We have a Dallas location as well at Blackfriar in Lakewood. We had to walk away from DIBS because the venue closed.

The place in the video looks cool. Seems like a cool place to watch a game.
Have you volunteered any of your time to the group? If you want to see things change getting involved with the group is the quickest way.

After living in another major American city with an alumni chapter, it was usually more fun to do your own thing and watch games at the bar that is there to provide as good a Louisiana atmosphere as possible.

It's gone downhill the past 6 or 7 years.

Count yourself lucky.... the Shreveport-Bossier chapter is downright terrible. Went to my first event and introduced myself to 3 or 4 different people.....all tech grads. Sat at the bar and mingled for a couple hours never met a single LSU alum.... last year when LSU played tech in Bossier I sat a few rows behind one of the heads of the chapter...who was decked out in Tech gear taunting LSU fans when they were leading. Sad.

Dodies Reef on Greenville
You do know the owners, who have no connection to LSU, took the Dodies name from a NOLA family who opened the original Dodies on lowest Greenville. They had to change their name to Charlie's Creole Kitchen when they lost the rights to Dodies in a court fight.
