I'd try to get the V6 simply because of down the line value. SR5 trim is enough for anyone really.

They are great trucks. My co-worker has one and I ride it in it almost daily.

I wish the interior was bigger. A lot bigger. I have to duck to get in it and I'm barely six-foot.

They hold their value really well.

Absolutely-our son’s Tacoma was totaled in the 2016 flood. The insurance payout was several thousand more than we paid for it, after several years of ownership.
They may not have a lot of bells & whistles, but that’s not a bad thing during supply chain delays.

Had one of these for a rental in the past yr. I liked it but began to notice that after a half hour or more my back would start aching. I just figured that was from the change in sitting posture that I was used to. Other than that I liked it. I drive a F150 for reference.

Get a real truck.

Interior is way too small and bed is too small.

Get yourself a base model F150. It will last a long time, it will be more powerful, will probably get better mpg, will have more load capacity, and you’ll have a better “comfort” experience.

sounds like a woman complaining the touch screen isn’t pretty enough

OP, get the 150 if you want to overpay for a mexican truck that’s going to leave you stranded

1996 taco 4 cyl 5 speed manual. 200000+ miles. Runs well, still gets 30 mpg. Only changed radio and starter. Still blows cold.

Looking at a 2020 SR5 double cab with a 2.7L I4 engine.

i had a tacoma with the 2.7 and it had issues pulling a 14ft flatboat. i literally could not pass any vehicle with less then a full mile of empty road.

i upgraded to the tacoma with 3.4 v6 engine and it was better but going up the bridge to cross the river was a struggle and it couldnt maintain speed. had to start at 70 and by the time i reached the top i was only doing 50 and i never let off the gas pedal.

tacomas are grocery getters and thats the most you can do with them.

also the v6 tacoma got 15 mpg when towing, the I4 got right about 16 mpg towing, so its not saving anything on gas vs a real truck

it is bullet proof as far as reliability, easy maint, and longevity, all toyota engines will easily get you 500k miles with regular oil changes

Yea the new 3.5s arent as good as the old 4.0s

Absolutely this^^^

They put a car engine in a truck. SLOW AF!

My 2008 TRD Off-ROAD has 275,000 and still runs like new. I bought it new for 23,500.

I wanted another one in 2017 but the used TRD 2008 were selling for 24-26,000. I'm not lying or exaggerating.

If I find a 2015 TRD 4WD I'm jumping all over it.
2015 is the last year of the 4.0's.

Wish me luck finding one. A unicorn is more likely to find.

I personally would not buy one. That is a lot of weight that motor is pulling & ‘straining’ it to accelerate will not do anything but shorten its life. V6 (4.0) is the way to go

This.

Back in college when I was poor I bought an Isuzu Amigo with a shitty 4 cylinder engine. After having it stain to climb hills in Oklahoma pulling a light weight small UHaul trailer I swore I'd never buy another underpowered vehicle again.

I drive a 2012 Tacoma SR5 4x4 with the 4L engine. I've got 210K miles on it and it is running fine.

I've pretty much decided that when this one is done I'm upsizing to the Tundra with a V8

Why the 4cylinder? I’d go with the 6 all day long. The 4 is indeed reliable, but so is the 6 and the 4 wont save you enough on mpg

I have the same truck as you and haven't any problems with it. Granted, the ratings for it in Consumer Reports were bad, but I've been really pleased with it.

Overpriced because Toyota can sell units based on the previous reputation; new models are not as good as the domestic trucks.

The 2.7 is a good, reliable motor, but it's going to struggle. The Tacoma isn't a light truck anymore. Upgrade to the V6 if possible.

The new Tundras have V6s, so you'll want a 2021 or earlier if you want a V8.

Oh they still do. You just can’t get them here because of our idiotic emissions/mpg/import standards
