Be one of the first to arrive and one of the last to leave.

During your workday, stay busy. Don’t take breaks like other lazy slackasses do.

Treat everyone with respect - even the assholes. If anyone criticizes you, don’t let them think it affects you. Thank them for telling you.

Have a sense of humor.

Never lose your shite with a coworker. Explain yourself calmly instead.

Start learning everyone else’s job.

When new people start working, check in on them and help them.

If you have someone on the organizational hierarchy directly above you - check on them periodically to see if they need any help. Make a point to do this when you see them stressed.

Not sure if the above works for everyone, but doing the above got me from welfare wages to 6 figures in 12 years.

Get your haircuts on work time because it grows on work time. Then write it off as a business expense

Also, get to know the janitors. Saved my arse multiple times when I had to get into the office late at night to get something.

Don’t let work consume your life. Company will always survive without you.

Company always had to do what is right for the company. If you need to do what is right for your family, do it

Two things-

If you’re early, you’re on time. If you’re on time, you’re late. If you’re late, you’re forgotten.

We can be friendly at work, but we ain’t friends.

I deal with people who aren’t capable of explaining an issue clearly and concisely. I can’t fix something if I can’t understand the problem. It wastes my time to ask 10 questions about what the problem is and how I can replicate it.

Also, it’s very obnoxious to have to read around typos and improper grammar in professional emails. Learn to write properly and effectively.

I took a technical writing course in college and the professor did an excellent job of teaching how to properly write mostly technical documents but it applies to emails and work documents as well. It was one of two courses I have no regrets taking and I actually learned applicable skills.

Negotiate everything.

Do not hesitate to ask for more.

Do not let others push stuff to you.
Stay in your lane.

Do not look for friends or lovers at work.

Do your job.

You should write every email as if the first sentence says,” Ladies and gentlemen of the jury.”

If you are polite, respectful, return phone calls, and emails promptly, you will be ahead of most of the workforce.

When I was full time military, I would push the limits of shitting my flight suit to the absolute envelope on the drive in to work just to shite in an Air Force toilet.

Ultimately the joke was on me. I got paid the same no matter when I showed.

Yep. It's got me this far.

...
why are you looking under stalls if a urinal will suffice for that particular moment?

1 - you prefer sitting to piss in stalls?
2 - deciding you don't have to poop anymore?

weird advice you got.

A manager, supervisor, etc should delegate work to their team. It can help develop them for future promotions and create a seemless period if the boss is on vacation.

Also allows yourself to free up time to become more involved in your own bosses routines and can develop you for that next step up.
