Strategically speaking, isn't the Figure-4 Leg Lock a terrible finishing move?

Preface by saying that the Figure Four is easily one of the most iconic and most fun finishers to actually perform on the trampoline when you're 11 years old, and it makes for good in-ring antics, but, from a purely logistical standpoint, it's a terrible move to end a match.

Firstly, it's a submission, so you can't KO your opponent like most finishers. It's also not a quick-hit move to hit your opponent out of nowhere.

Secondly, it's one of the easiest moves to break, because the ropes are always only a few feet away from you.

And lastly, all you have to do is roll over and then the move is reversed on the person who applied it in the first place.

What a shitty strategic move, no?

In wrestling, yes. With Elizabeth Hurley, no.

10 yr old DD had no idea what wrestling stuff was so all my buddies used me as a tackling dummy as "showing me something".

Whenever someone shouts Goldberg now I kind of expect to get speared from behind.

The figure 4 is easy to break when there is cooperation.

Go to a wrestling school and have the trainer do a shoot with you.

You will discover more about wrestling.

Yes it is fake and scripted

But these people can legitimately stretch you out and inflict pain any time they choose.

First off, if you find yourself in a figure four, you're completely at the mercy of the person who put you in it. They could literally break your lower leg bones if they wanted to.

Second, all of the "high impact" finishers are BS. You mean to tell me a guy has been punching you in the face for 20 minutes, but a spear to the gut is going to knock you out?

The pile driver (not the tombstone, the OG pile driver) was as close of a legit finisher because you could literally break their neck if it wasn't protected.

The "finishers" today are ridiculous. RKO? Did you ever see Samoa Joe just walk away from it? Stunner? Your butt takes a bigger impact than the opponent's chin. Top rope moves? They have to already be unconscious to lay there long enough to happen.

If you manage to get somebody in a figure 4, they can be in legitimate, debilitating pain if you want them to.

I know right! It’s not near as effective as smoking them like you did Oswald!

My brother and I grew up trying those moves on each other. The Figure 4 is not the finishing move I would choose. Piledriver is more effective.
