polterguist was good, so was amiteville (not sure how that one was rated), but jaws set the bar higher than it ever was before, and its not even close. some people refused to go in the water for years after jaws came out

Jaws is an excellent movie, but it is not scary, since the shark can't hurt you if you aren't in (or on, in Quint's case) the water.

Not a whole lotta things out there that can hurt you without being within close proximity of you
That’s a weird threshold for something being scary

Poltergeist for me. But probably more of the age I first saw each movie

Jaws certainly is the goriest PG movie.

I was thinking poltergeist before opening it.

I think this scene alone scared everyone the first time they saw it lol
And when Quint tells that Indianapolis story, whole movie changes.

Poltergeist is the perfect example of "don't show the monster". That movie was a clinic in how to create a spooky vibe until the evil muppet came out of the closet.

Ive always hated the poltergeist poster because if you just glance at it, the bottom of the slippers she’s sitting on make it look like when instagram hoes sit on the edge of a pool in a thong and take a pic from behind lol.

This is a great topic for debate, btw.

Dude, Jaws ruined the beach for lifetime for kids of the 80s.

..was it the clown that did you in?

I honestly don’t remember. And I guess that is the point. Born in 1979 and probably saw Poltergeist as a 6-7 years old. Couldn’t comprehend the logic
Jaws made sense to me. Big animal that will get you. Same as if I went in the jungle or whatever. I can escape that.
Can’t escape the unknown.

What’s surprising to me is either one of these films are rated PG. Not even a 13 designation? Wild
