Can you solve this ISEB pre-test problem (taken by 11 year olds in the UK)?

the 4th one

octagon needs to be on the inside and there need to be 4 circles outside (because shape inside has 4 sides) with the pattern to match the inside of the bottom left.

The answer is D,

The way I got it was by seeing that the top-left and bottom-right appear to be related, and observing that D is related to bottom-left in the same way.

It's the 4th option. Empty exterior shape, then the circles outside correlate to the number of sides from the interior object filled with the pattern from the interior object.

I choose E too - for the outer pattern there are 6 sides or 6 vertices or 6 bulges. That’s E.

I actually don't know what the actual answer is. I just came across it and found it interesting enough to post

It’s D.

Outer shape becomes inner shape and shade .

Number of shapes in prior inner shape determine the pattern
