Half the FBS that no one cares about takes viewers away from the good games… then those ratings drop and we wonder wtf is happening

There are a few teams that are absolutely okay with how this has turned out
One is the power in the B1G
One is the power in the SEC
One is the power in the ACC
You see a theme?
Yeah, BAMA, Ohio State, and Clemson are pretty good at football.

yes, the influx of games has decreased viewership on an individual game basis. but the total amount of viewership of people watching college football has exploded. and thats the important number. thanks to every game being available. which is good

That was objectively bad for the sport
It was inconveniencing for fans who had to listen to it on the radio or watch it on Pay-Per-View but to say it was bad for the sport is entirely a subjective opinion.

From 2005 to 2013 the BCS had two clear cut teams for 1 and 2.
Yeah no whining in 2007
Or from USC, Alabama, Texas or Utah in 2008
Or all the 12-0 G5 teams in 2009
Or OSU in 2011

It is amazing how much amnesia sets in as very little time goes by.

Getting rid of BcS was bad
I am not right about much but I nailed this one. I said when they junked the BCS and went to the committee thing that ppl would regret it and here we are. Now we have teams getting more support because of “the eye test” or well this team was undefeated when this player was health and they discount what happens when a player is injured. A championship is supposed to be won or your opportunity to win one is supposed to be based on your merits not hypothetical stuff. The media hated the BCS because it didn’t give preferential treatment to certain teams. Eye test is the code word for preferential treat for a team or teams. The media lost control of the narrative and the outcome is why they got rid of it.

I'm not sure where you are getting your history. The eye test was very much a part of the BCS. The Harris Poll and the Coaches poll made up 2/3 of the BCS. That is a whole lot of eyes and a heap of humanoids. The last 1/3 were the computers that gave us great #1 teams like Boise State. The eye test corrected such stuff.
The SEC could not have been happier with the BCS. Getting both BAMA vs LSU in a rematch in 2011. The SEC was dominating that thing when it went away. The 4 team playoff came from screaming other conferences that wanted in more often.

So should high school athletes be paid to?
Yes. A HS athlete should be allowed to make money by being sponsored.
However, this will 100% lead to Nike kids vs adidas kids in all forms of recruiting.

No, this is better for fans that stay at home. It is part of what is killing stadium atmospheres

Yeah and they are making the mistake nascar made. Changing rules that ruin the game itself.
Posted on 7/9/22 at 11:18 am to grizzlylongcut
yea I think all these changes are short sighted. For the short term these networks will be flushed in cash from these moves. But I think overtime you’ll start to see people turn away from college sports (especially football) as a lot of the traditions and things that made college sports different from pro sports go away and people choose to just watch pro sports instead. I think if we could’ve kept things in the happy medium of the 90’s-00’s with increased exposure without the over monetization it would’ve been perfect.

Teams would bitch to bitch but they had no real case. The G5 teams in 2009? Give me a break. The BCS got extremely lucky the SEC started dominating and made 2005-2013 so easy for the system.

The amnesia is thinking the BCS was better than it was and thinking it would have been good for college football in 2018 and 2019. The BCS got lucky for its final 9 seasons.

Because they each have small amounts of viewers but there’s so many of them

Removing the AP from the BCS was a correct decision.

The playoff system as constituted was brought in for one reason - to keep the B1G relevant.
