re: What’s up with Jason’s Deli?

I don’t get this place. I’ve been to one in Mobile and it was jam packed on a Sunday for lunch. They opened in Metairie a few years ago. Went a few times then and was never impressed. Since it had been a while I decided we should try it again for dinner last week. The place was a ghost town for dinner. The food is just plain boring. It makes MacAllisters (which is “okay”) seem like Gordon Ramsey is in the kitchen.
I have one right by my house and they have a lot of really solid options, such as:
BBQ Brisket Baked Potato
Chicken Soup
Potato Soup
Chicken Salad on Crossiant
The "Manager Special" is a cup of soup and half a sandwich and a bag of chips for like $8 which is always pretty decent

Decent sandwiches & soups with a good variety as well as baked potatoes. . They aren’t gourmet but aren’t intended to be. Most importantly, free soft serve ice cream.

It’s fairly cheap, not great but not bad food, that you can get quickly for a weekday lunch.
What is there not to get?

you went to jason's deli...for dinner

I love the Nutty Mixed Up Salad. And their taco soup isn’t bad. Also the boxed lunches for feeding a group can be pretty good because there are choices. One year they delivered to my group in Eunice, from Lafayette! At no extra charge for distance.

Beefeater side salad ice tea $41

Had this on my last visit. Just plain boring. Corky’s had one that was much better.

1/4 muffuletta with a chicken pot pie soup and old school ridged potato chips is a great lunch

Bet that won't happen with $4+ gallon gas.

Yeah, it wouldn’t have happened even a year later. They delivered to our place of departure from Lafayette in subsequent years.

Nola people might be more negative in their opinions about food than BR people lmfao

I think it's garbage. I can make a better sandwich.

They have incredible variety, where else can you get a great salad bar, paninis, clubs, chicken pot pie, soups, potatoes, pasta etc.
and the best part, soft serve included in whatever you get!
Now none of their offerings are incredible, but that's not why people go there, they go for variety.
Perfect for families, you should see this place on a sunday afternoon in Alabama, it's slammed.

The salad bar isn't great. The other food is subpar. I would take a Ruby Tuesday salad bar any day over this.

I miss the days when they put a lot more meat on their sandwiches but I still enjoy it from time to time.
Went to high school with the founders grandchildren. Good people.

I absolutely love Jason's Deli and will defend it till I die. I usually get the pastrami sandwich on sour dough or the Carmella (Three meats - salami, pepperoni, ham - melted provolone, spicy piquillo pepper relish, mayo, toasted sourdough). What other place in Baton Rouge delivers consistently good sandwiches? Also I cant even think of a place in BR that has a good pastrami besides Jason's Deli.

Not to derail because I like Jason's Deli too, but the Pastrami Grilled Cheese at BRQ is pretty legit.
I've been getting this one lately as well. I like it, but I love their Rueben.

I keep giving Jason’s Deli another chance. This place still perplexed me and underwhelms on every occasion. This is hospital food.
I ordered the Italian po-boy and mac-n-cheese today. The mac-n-cheese is Kraft Easy Mac floating in cheese water. Anyone could easily make this sandwich at home and probably be better.
