What a trip. Went back and read your dad's obituary and so many similarities.. early career anyway..
Your dad was 6 months older. My dad served 55-59. Radio man on an LST. Spent WAY too much time in the South China Sea.
Then worked as a machinist/interpretor for an old blind German that invented the Starlight scope. Then worked at Texas Instruments and Bell Helicopter. No college, 8th grade and a GED. But he knew how to get shite done and that was valued back then.

They were a fascinating generation. They knew the world before WW2 and were part of the tech explosion after the war.
I celebrate their lives. They did more by age 40 than most of us will do our entire lives.
I'm a bit jealous.
How many of us will be able to say we helped develope a rocket.. the frickin Saturn IV..

Sorry for your loss, Z. Seems like your dad was a solid guy of good moral character. Cherish the good memories for all time.

I lost my dad way too early in '04. He was also deeply involved with Boy Scouts well before all the woke nonsense began to ruin the organization, and worked for Hughes Aircraft in SoCal on classified military contracts/R&D for many years. You never realize exactly how much they meant to you until they're no longer there.

And yes of course, positive vibes coming your way, airmail. My personal experience has generally been that the passage of time heals all wounds, including broken hearts and such.

Sorry man.

We will all be there one day. My Dad is an Army (invited/drafted) vet and 75. I try to enjoy each day.

Since my Uncle (his brother and best friend) passed, I’ve become his friend. We tinker in my garage all the time like we are both the same age.

Never saw myself at that point with my dad. He’s not a cuddly type. Lol. Still not so I just pick on him about it. We Jack with each other about everything. It’s odd but it’s where we are.

I say all this to say I know the same day the OP is having is coming for me. I wish you comfort OP and I wish you well.

Sorry I rambled. Don’t know why I did. I just did. Not taking it down.
