Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg on Thursday launched a $1 billion first-of-its-kind pilot program aimed at helping reconnect cities and neighborhoods racially segregated or divided by road projects, pledging wide-ranging help to dozens of communities despite the program’s limited dollars.
Under the Reconnecting Communities program, cities and states can now apply for the federal aid over five years to rectify harm caused by roadways that were built primarily through lower-income, Black communities after the 1950s creation of the interstate highway system.

Advocacy groups say the money isn’t nearly enough to have a major impact on capital construction for more than 50 citizen-led efforts nationwide aimed at dismantling or redesigning highways — from Portland, Oregon, to New Orleans; St. Paul, Minnesota; Houston; Tampa, Florida; and Syracuse, New York. Meanwhile, some Republicans, including possible 2024 presidential contender Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, have derided the effort as the “woke-ification” of federal policy, suggesting political crosswinds ahead in an election season.
“Transportation can connect us to jobs, services and loved ones, but we‘ve also seen countless cases around the country where a piece of infrastructure cuts off a neighborhood or a community because of how it was built,” said Buttigieg, who was announcing the pilot program later Thursday in Birmingham, Alabama.

So, they'll bitch because there is a road , and they'll bitch because there isn't a road.

Why not just go ahead and call it a money laundering bill? You know the Black Mayors are about to get their hustle on.

The reason while most white folks roll their eyes at the racist stuff is because it’s used so often and about stuff that racism has nothing to do with that the word doesn’t have a meaning anymore.
It’s just silly now days when it’s said

You do realize this guy was a nothing mayor of a medium-sized town in Indiana. And he somehow foisted himself upon us by running for president. I don't know what it will take to unfoist him.

Why dont they include Old Metairie? I-10 cut right through, dividing it in two.
Wait, I know why. It's wasn't a black neighborhood and it still isn't.

The elevated N.Claiborne expressway in New Orleans has somehow become a big 'poster child' for this ridiculous notion.
Here's S. Claiborne, far removed from the racist interstate:
Here's an area of N. Claiborne around the racist interstate.
Yes, it's the racist interstate's fault.
