Knicks just traded Burks and Noel to the pistons for literally nothing to make room for Brunson.

It’s deserving in a sense because they are stupid for even offering him this contract. It’s just super embarrassing if he turns them down even though they are offering an egregious overpay.

Most people thought that the Ayton to Detroit rumors were dead with the Duren trade, but this seals it.

there's security having a guard who can play with Luka, be the backup pg and give you a scoring option when Luka's on the bench.

They have another guy who can do that, and that guy is 6’6 instead of 6’1.

He must’ve really just wanted to go to New York cause Cuban basically said he would match any offer.

Brunson makes zero sense on the Knicks. Good luck playing him, Barrett, and Randle together also with no shooting.

Mavs blew this Brunson situation from way back to the contract they gave him when they drafted him. It’s really crazy how incompetent Cuban has been as an owner. He was saved by two franchise superstars, one of which he inherited.

Good lord what a massive failure by the Mavs front office. Could have had him for 55m at the start of the year. Now to lose him for nothing when it’s impossible to replace him due to being over the cap? Woof.

Don’t forget, his dad is also on the knicks’ staff.

Well his dad played for the Knicks and was on Thibodeau’s staff in other stops. So this didn’t automatically seem like a hire him for his son situation.

And they offered him more money to get him there.

How do you know this? Cuban said publicly he would do whatever it took financially to keep Brunson. Seems like Brunson just wanted to play in New York.

They're always pretty good so it saves him from bigtime shite but they've basically gone two decades without being able to get their alltime guys a high level running mate. JET is probably the best #2 they've had.

When free agency opens on Thursday, the New York Knicks are expected to present Jalen Brunson a four-year offer in the vicinity of $110 million, league sources tell @YahooSports.

Lawd, that’s a bit much for Brunson

Who would have ever thought we'd be at a point in the NBA where the NEW YORK KNICKS have to hire someone's dad to get in the door with a top free agent? And will still have to drastically overpay for said free agent

Say what you want about KD, but when he went to the Nets he had this to say, and I can't say he's wrong:

quote:

“It's hard to get the best players to play [for the Knicks]. It's hard," KD says.

"I think a lot of fans look at the Knicks as a brand and expect these younger players who, in their lifetime, don’t remember the Knicks being good."

"I saw the Knicks in the Finals, but the kids coming up after me didn’t see that. So, that whole brand of the Knicks, to them, is not as cool to them as, say, a Golden State Warriors or even the Lakers or the Nets now. The cool thing right now is not the Knicks.”

I know he hasn't been for a while but Jay-Z had a small but marketable share of the Nets and the move to Brooklyn helped build their brand, the kids think the Nets are cooler than the Knicks. Doesn't help that Dolan is the Knicks owner and can't stop stepping on his own dick.

MSG and Spike Lee is about the only thing the Knicks have been known for other than sucking for quite a whole now.

Mavs should do a sign and trade.

The Warriors taught everyone you don't let this cap space walk. Even if they have to take back a bad contract it is better than losing the cap space all together. Just take back Gibson and a trade exception for Brunson.

mavs could offer more with an extra year, plus Knicks would still need to cut $7m

And they are a perpetual shitshow

Weird move

Not weird at all. Money isn't the only motivator. This is also a case of Jalen getting to lead the show as the starting point guard. That would never be the case if he resigns with Dallas.

Dinwiddie may be worth the money for them.

Bertans was the cost of getting him / dumping KP. And an expensive at that.

With the Mavs paying Bertans $16M and Dinwiddie $21M, Brunson is easily worth $25M.

Thats not how that works in the NBA you cannot look at it like that in terms of team building for a championship.

Absolutely spot on as well as they can get at the very minimum a trade exception that could be useful come the deadline if you want to preempt a buyout.

Cuban can offer more money and more years and it looks like he isn't willing to do it. Once again Cuban is full of hot air while thinking he's the smartest guy in the room. Now watch Brunson turn into a Lowry clone.

Time for the real world to face facts. The Knicks have been around forever
And the myopic NYC media hails them as a “storied franchise.” But at this point Steph Curry has twice as many championships as the Knicks do.

The Knicks have always been a fraud franchise and I’m sick to death of hearing about them and how “The NBA is better when the Knicks are good.” So what, the NBA has been “good” like 4 times in 80 years?

You know ESPN is probably producing a Linsanity 30 for 30.

Yep. That’s bad when a small streak shooting scoring guard who comes off the bench(Terry) is the best you can do to complement your franchise players. Mavs have been a disaster at free agency and the draft.

Look at that 06 roster and wonder how the frick Dirk had that crew as the best team and should have won it all.

2011 was a bunch of vets who knew their roles, most of them had completely disappeared every playoffs for a fews years leading to 2011, which Dirk was amazing in those years but getting blamed for the failures.
