The second tweet though…

If Irving declines his $36M player option, he would be eligible to sign with the Lakers for the $6M exception. Deadline is Wednesday to decide on option.

Woj getting them clicks

I just don’t see him leaving that much money on the table with as much as he’s lost last year.
Then again, it is Kyrie
Then again, it is Kyrie

I think Kyrie is done playing for the Nets. He'd rather play for the MLE with the Lakers then play for the Nets again and he's stubborn enough and has easily made over $300M in his career so he ain't hurting for money.

I think you're 100% wrong.

Kyrie has frick you money and will get big deals offered to him if he goes to LAL and they win b/c of him.
His long term risk isn't that big, esp if no teams want to S/T for him

He would take a big money contract from the nets before going to the Lakers for 6 mil.

The only way he's making it to the Lakers is if he's willing to sign for the tax payer MLE.
He's a crazy person, so I wouldn't put it past him.
if there is any player in the league likely to consider walking away from 30MM guaranteed, its irving. you know, because he plays to the beat of a different drummer or some shite

quote:There are rumors that he may decline his option and sign for the taxpayer MLE with the Lakers. That would really such for our swap rights.
He can try to make his way anywhere, it isn't happening.
The nets are better off letting him go than taking Westbrook.

If he's not, then we could be interested if the price is lowered.
it's somewhat of a wasted roster spot at this point, and his minutes would be better served going to someone we are trying to develop. He's the 4th PF/C on the team, and that's if you dont' want to include Trey at the 4. I'd rather have Trey fill that role sometimes, and also give Liddell minutes. I know Jaxson's future isn't with this team, so might as well give his minutes to guys that have a potential future with this team.
It would make no sense to sign him in the offseason if "the price is lowered", whatever you are thinking that price is. He's not even an MLE guy right now.

Lakers get: Kyrie and Ben Simmons
Hornets get: Westbrook
Nets get: AD and Hayward

let me rephrase that.
The Nets are not going to give him a max deal, and Kyrie would rather play for the MLE with the Lakers then play for less than a max with the Nets.

I’ll believe it when I see it.

What I don't get is why he would choose the Lakers if he was willing to take such a low salary. Warriors, heat, bucks, suns and nuggets would all give him a better chance of winning a championship.

if a VP for the NBPA opts out of a $30+ million deal to sign the NTMLE in LA after playing 29 games last year, I am going to start preparing for the lockout to end all lockouts
I feel bad for CJ. He's going to have a gun to his head during CBA negotiations and there won't be much he can do about it.

Yeah if Kyrie does that the owners will be secretly leaping for joy. It’ll be a machine gun to the head of the players during the cba.

Cause I’m not sure a single one of those teams would take him
This guy has been walking toxicity for five years.
- Demanded a trade from Cleveland one year removed from a championship
- Destroyed the locker room in Boston and that franchise, which was on a perennial rise, has just now recovered
- Destroyed the Nets, TWICE! First by basically toxifying the situation and getting the coach fired first go, then all his antics and bullshite that pushed Harden out.
Not to mention, as the Boston series showed, playoff Kyrie is far from perfect. He can be worn down over the course of a series and gets increasingly successfully targeted on defense.
If you are a contender like the above, why would you risk destroying your franchise, possibly closing your window, by taking a risk on this guy?
Lakers makes sense entirely cause they are in desperation mode. It’s their one Hail Mary they possibly have this off-season to regain contender status. But that assumes Lebron can work his magic one last time and get Kyrie in line(and available to play), and both he and AD aren’t walking injuries by season’s end….and if AD decides to give a shite

If Ben Simmons didn’t already have owners prepping to hold the line in negotiations, Kyrie would definitely do so.
LeBron and Klutch being at the center of most recent messes likely reinforces such a stance.

Lotta ifs there. Not like LA has any better options given the state of their current team and not owning their own picks for the better part of the next few years.
I figure they end up better than last year by replacing Westbrick with Kyrie but their ceiling doesn’t go up much because they have no depth.
