The Pelicans have less of a major need at any particular position than other lottery teams. New Orleans has four surefire starters in the fold and a plethora of young talent at every position that gives it tremendous depth and role players to plug virtually any hole. Drafting Dieng and allowing him to come along slowly would make plenty of sense. A fluid wing with ample size to slide to the power forward position as his frame fills out, Dieng hit his stride as the Australian NBL season progressed, flashing impressive shot-making prowess, the ability to create for teammates out of the pick-and-roll and the length and off-ball instincts to defend multiple positions.

Prepare for Dieng to be the pick. Lots of smoke around him.
We're still in the posturing phase of things. What does the Pels being comfortable taking Dieng at 8 tell other teams? That your trade up offers were insufficient.
Why Dieng over Sochan? I think it's because most people expect Sochan to go before Dieng, so it says "we want a player that should be available at 10, maybe even 12, so call us back with a better offer."

The only one listed with a higher ceiling is maybe Sharpe. Dieng has all the tools to become a top 15 player in the league.
I’ve said this a few times on this board, but I hate the term ceiling. How many guys actually hit their “ceiling?” For some reason when we use the term ceiling we use it in relation to some fairy tale land that 99.9% of guys will never reach. I much prefer to discuss realistic ceilings. Which goes back to my original statement.
Dieng First Half: 5 PTS, 26% FG, 17% 3FG, 2 REB, 1 AST,
Dieng Second Half: 13 PTS, 49% FG, 29% 3FG, 4 REB, 1 AST, 1 STL
He’s shown little improve from range through multiple seasons, which should be a concern.
I would agree that he could be switchable, but I chose to put the word now in there for a reason. I would also flat out disagree that he’s as switchable as everyone else in this range. Sochan for example, he’s one of the most switchable guys to come out in a long time. Dieng pales in comparison. I think Tari Eason is more switchable right now. Even a guy like EJ Liddell could be thrown more in there. Hell even Duren would be more switchable, and I don’t necessarily like him switching down right now. I group Dieng with Jalen Williams, definitely has the length and potential to be very switchable, but right now are considerably better at swallowing up guards/wings.
And he avoids contact in the paint. I don’t know how you can even argue that. Any scouting report you read agrees with that statement. It’s partially why his percentages are so hard. Even high percentage shots are made difficult because he shys away from contact.

If we don't pick between Dyson, Mathurin, Sharpe, or Sochan; I may lose my shite...

I can agree that he gets lost on switches but once hes there hes very good 1 on 1 against multiple positions. And I have seen him try to finish through contact a ton. Especially compared to players like everyones dream Daniels who is absolutely scared to go to the paint and too weak to finish anything.

It’s funny to have this conversation as I’m sitting here listening to Sam Vecenie and Matt Pennie and they’re talking about the questions with him are being 6’10 and his lack of physicality and rebounding. Vecenie’s quote “he doesn’t like going in the tough areas. It’s a lot of I’m going to take a running floater instead of using my length to finish, it’s I’m going to fade away from the rim instead of try to finish. He isn’t the most physical defender.”
I’ve said this for years, usually when a guy isn’t a physical player that isn’t something that’s necessarily changed for good. They may get more physical in stretches, but for the most part a non physical guy stays not physical.

You obviously either haven’t watched any film on Dieng or know nothing about basketball
Everything he said is 100% true. Dieng does avoid contact at all costs. Of all the "high ceiling" prospects in this class, he's the one I think is least likely to reach that ceiling.
He's not explosive, strong, or crafty. He isnt a good shooter, he isn't a good defender. He is a decent playmaker for his size. He has good handles for his size. Basically he's a 6'10 guard with smooth handles, but that's essentially all he is right now.
He played really bad in the NBL, which isn't very strong competition, except for the last 15 games.
He does shy away from contact, much like Lonzo did, so he doesn't really use his size advantage.
I just don't like Dieng as a prospect, atleast not in the lottery. He and Griffin are the only two non-bigman players I've been vocal about not wanting.
I think both will underperform their draft position. Just my opinion, I could always be wrong. But if you haven't watched much tape on the guy yourself, then you should before you just buy into the hype.

If they took Dieng over Sharpe/Maturin/Daniel’s I’d frickin Vomit

Been watching a lot of Ousmane Dieng tape have you?
Posted on 6/22/22 at 8:13 pm to smoke225
Let’s remember with Dieng he’s going up against grown men in a very physical Australian league. Not college kids
I don’t expect us to pick him over Daniels or Mathurin tho.

Again “My Opinion” I’d vomit if they took Dieng over one of those three

My point is that’s absurd. You don’t have a clue. Neither do I.
Our team is good enough to take risks and they do get some trust. Relax

And I’d just prefer a risk on Sharpe/Mathurin/Daniel over Dieng. Again it’s just my opinion dude, and this is a message board sorry my opinion disturbs you.
