Better than them sitting inside playing video games and eating sugar all day.

My disgust with proliferation of turf fields, especially for youth sports, is pretty strong. If the field has spots that don’t drain or is bumpy or is muddy who cares - its kids sports.

Plus what are the kids that suck supposed to do without ant hills and dandelions? My high school is about to spend several million to replace its grass football field with turf. The rationale for that I will never understand.

Here comes all the idiots that say how tough they were when they were a kid. "We played all day and never went inside or drank water". You can't have it both ways, kids stay indoors playing video games, they are soft. Kids playing outside in the heat, parents are child abusers. The ot being dumb as usual. Most probably don't have kids anyway.

This is the most probable answer. My girl loves softball, so we jumped into this league. Outside of the money extraction it was run pretty well. This weekend was the first time I felt the heat was actually too much and attempted to pull my kid, who said she could handle it and that she wouldn’t quit on her team.she’s about as responsible as a 8 year old can be and always tells us when she feels funny or doesn’t think she can do something.

All these internet step parents come out of the woodwork to tell me how stupid I am? Well first I don’t give two shits. Second, I know my kid and her determination level and dedication to something she loves. I gave her an out and she said she’s fine as long as she can cool off a bit between innings so myself and my wife made a call. She thanked us after for letting her finish. If that makes me a bad parent then I’m guilty as fricking charged, call CPS on me you fricking pussies or shut the frick up.

I believe they should have not had so many games and I’m glad we won’t be put into that position again.

I guarantee my 8yr old girl has more character than some of these nutless lady boys parading around as the arbiters of parenthood

I'm glad travel ball wasn't a high thing here in the 90s when I played. I had spring league, which is your standard city league baseball. Summer was all stars, the only traveling we did was to play other all star league teams around the city and in surrounding counties. And then fall ball. Winter was for playing basketball.

This crap of having young Bryson and Jaxsun cross state lines for tball and little league is beyond idiotic. Only time it makes sense is if you're league participates in the Little League World Series.

High school age is different and that I understand.

My daughter played travel ball from 8u- 18u Gold. Best times of our lives. Seen most every state with several trips to Canada and Hawaii. She then went on to play college ball with full scholarship. I have no bad things to say about our experience.

Its true, man turf is hotter than grass, I work for a Turf manufacturer and there are additives that can cool it down close to ambient temp, but facilities don't want to pay the extra money for it.

My sister (no pics) figured she spends about 2,000 a month on average on travel ball for her 8 year old daughter.

fricking ignorant.

My 8 year old had to play 4 fricking games in that shite Saturday. We were spraying her down with cool water and made her slam water down the hatch in between innings. She was crying about being hot and tired halfway through the third game. We had to sit in the vehicle with the AC on between games just to avoid anything more severe.

We snuck a cooler of water and Gatorade in under some towels. frick those shysters.

I’m glad she’s gonna be too old for her team next year so I can get her into a sport that is run by people with some sense.
Have you questioned your own sense of logic and reasoning? Who the hell forced you to put your 8 yr old child through 4 games in that brutal heat?

They have a new ‘fill’ material now that is MUCH cooler than rubber. This is Dutchtown’s football field, the day after it was installed. Supposed to be 25-30 degrees cooler. Comes out of the gun as a liquid, then creates these hollowing orbs. Pretty fricking trick.

Are the worst so fricken hot and then the facktsrds of the events won't let you bring in a cooler. The field is hotter than the air. So I'm sposed to pay 3 dollars for a small bottle of water, 10 dollars to get in the game, and then not only that you don't have anyone to grill a hamburger.

Travel ball is on another level of trashy. I truly feel sorry for all the kids. The best part of post game is taking your cleats off and walking around on the soft perfectly maintained grass that isn't 4000 degrees.

cool story bro

in general travel ball is way way way less trashy than little league or other rec sports. way higher class of people, atleast in South Louisiana.

the turf does suck though in june and july but grass sucks too though because it usually rains a lot and tournaments on grass fields get cancelled.

as far as the rest....sorry you are poor and cant afford concessions. ever thought of taking advantage of this employee market and getting a higher paying job??

If there was no chance to cool off between innings I would have pulled her. My wife was with her in the dugout with a battery operated fan and Florida water and ice cold water for her to drink between her trips out to cover third base.

In a different situation there would have been no discussion and we would have pulled her. AC in the vehicle between games also helped.

I can understand how the first post looked but we made a call and took every precaution available. I won’t be doing it again.
