I’ve always seen tv shows and movies that say “alright its time for a family meeting.” My family never had a family meeting and I don’t know anybody that’s had a family meeting.

I think there were a few. Mostly to settle some feud between brothers or to announce the untimely death of a grandparent.

My family doesn’t need this. We talk to each other all the time.

Supper in our house. Electronics not at the table. Or you don't eat.

But may not be the same as what is portrayed in that scene...

I try to avoid them usually. Rehab just isn't for me.

We had one about three years ago when we banned fortnite. You’d have thought the world just ended or the family dog just died afterwards. Big time cryfest around here.

We had a few Come to Jesus meetings, usually consisting of my dad and me, followed by being grounded.

Last time I tried, my dad Mike was pissed because he was working on the plans for the Montgomery house in Topanga. Alice was on my last nerve.

The only one I remember was right after a little girl got kidnapped two miles from our house. It was all about stranger danger.

My family actually has formal family meetings.

But it’s not always about serious things. We might call a meeting to plan a family vacation, coordinate holidays or organize a project we want to do on our property.

Not everyone does it that way, but we like our formality. It keeps communication lines open and we have less chaos as a result.
