Get an Ego (or whatever battery powered brand you like) and forget about fricking around with gas and oil and priming and pull-starting and filters and spark plugs and etc. Just grab it and get to work.

Battery powered weed eaters kick arse. Just have a spare battery or two

Might be easier than that - could be old gas. Mine was being a PITA so I drained the old gas and put some fresh gas in and it started right up. 2 strokes are also pretty easy to flood. I took the spark plug out and removed the filter - let it dry out - put good gas in it and it was fine.

Man, I have all echo stuff (weed eater, blower, edger) and never had an issue going on 5+ yrs. Ethanol free gas with a little seafoam. Four pulls max and each one is running.

The Ego battery powered string trimmer is the goat. Will cut through just about anything and string is super easy to load. Just stick it through and press a button to wind it up.
I always hated trimmers until I got this thing. Dealing with the string always made me rage quit. Not anymore.

I can't bring myself to buy a battery trimmer. My Echo has just about every attachment you can buy. Edger, trimmer, tiller, pruner, blower. It takes the place of 5 different pieces of equipment and it all takes up one shelf in my garage along with my chain saw. If I bought all those things individually my entire garage would be full of the stuff. Plus I have almost every single one of my 12 outlets already occupied with other stuff. My garage is basically another room in my house - there are phone and computer chargers, a freezer, a beer fridge, my chargers for my cordless drill and circular saw, a tv, a sound bar, a light, a radio, a camera, a Dyson vacuum. I just don't have space for one and the Echo has been great.

Im more frustrated that I ran my echo so much over four years that the spool head basically disintegrated and I can no longer rig it to spin string

Have one and I regret it. Not nearly as powerful as I want it to be.

Get a battery powered if you do not like dealing with gas.
If you want to keep gas just buy an extra carb.
Not much to a two stroke engine.

Yes! I bought one of those self feeding ones. It sucks and does not self feed. I feel like I have to stop every two minutes and redo the string!!

yep. ethanol free fuel if you’re going to mix it yourself. there’s an app showing all gas stations with ethanol free gas.
or just buy the pre-mixed gas/oil. that’s what i do. cost a little more, but will probably extend the life another 5 years. take care of a good quality weed eater and it’ll last longer than the battery powered ones, bet

I bought a straight shaft Murray from Wal Mart about 8 years ago. Changed out the head to one that takes in the double string in 2 sides. I ONLY RUN THE PREMIXED CAN FUEL through it and it has been a great unit! My only issue I ever had was that the hose going to the tank cracked. I ordered a new tank with the hose attached from EBay of $9 and was back weed eating in a few days.

Echo or Stihl with the echo speed feed head and the canned premix gas. If you still have problems, it's your fault.
