I am watching the Ole Miss- USM game and just saw an electric car commercial and a thought popped into my head. How would someone charge their electric vehicle after a hurricane and the power is out for at-least a week if they do not have a big enough generator?

This has never been discussed on here before.

What an incredibly original thought. Someone should discuss this.

Always have some gas in the tank. Always have some charge in your battery.

Depends on the size and efficiency of the generator used, but generally a gallon burned to run a generator and charge an EV will drive it further than the same gallon burned directly in an ICE vehicle. This is why series hybrids exist.

I’m not advocating one way or another but damn it was difficult to find gas/diesel after Ida

Especially when many gas stations don’t have electricity to pump it out of the tanks.

You can charge them off ford lighting. Two ford lightning hooked together equals is perpetual motion

I am sure there are battery equivalents to 5gallon gas cans that we can store and tap as the need arises....

I've been through many hurricanes here in Louisiana. So many that it caused my retired parents to move out of state to Arkansas. My Mom literally could not take another hurricane .
Anyway , a day or two after every hurricane one of the first places to open back up in BR is the gas station.Yes you might have to wait in line but that station was always open a day or two after the hurricane past.

The Real Question is what happens if SE La evacuates in an EV? If I-10 / I-55 /US61 are plugged up with vehicles trying to evac can a EV make it to Hammond before it dies ? Also remember people are going to want the AC on and are probably carrying children, a few suitcases , and a dog.

Be careful with that question, their are a lot of EV ball lickers on the site that take any slight to EVs as an affront to Elon lol

The answer is you are screwed, once you load up the car the battery dies twice as fast.
