Best way to get from Miami to Key West?

Going to a wedding in key west later this year. Flying into Miami. Will potentially be a group of us. Advice?

It is a nice drive in a convertible, but that probably won't help your situation. Have you looked into a arty bus rental?

I haven’t really done any in depth research which is why I came here first. Is chartering a boat an option?
If it ends up just being my wife and I we will absolutely rent a convertible and drive.

There are small airlines that take you there from MIA. You can also drive straight from the airport. It is an easy and senic 3 hour drive.
It would probably be easier and faster to charter a plane than a boat.

If you drive, look up and download the gypsy app for the road trip.

We flew to Key West from Jacksonville last year. Guessing same airline probably does same from Miami.

Are you flying in the same day you plan to get to Key West and how much of an issue is time.
The drive isn't fun but if you leave Mia early in the morning you can usually make it with less traffic.
Flying is fast but expensive.
There are shuttles (busses) that are like $30 per person but it takes a while because, well...its a bus.
When we do it, we rent a car and drive BUT we fly into Mia one day, spend the night and make the drive early the next morning. You can either do a one way car rental and drop the car when you arrive in key west OR park it and drive it back. Once you're down on key west, it's easier to just Uber, bike, scooter, walk most places than trying to find a parking spot.

Change flight to Fort Myers and then take the ferry. That way you don’t have to go to Miami.

Haven’t booked anything yet but that’s not a bad idea.

Was gonna say about the ferry, but it’s kind of pricey as I recall. Of course now with gas prices, maybe a bit more palatable. Aren’t you up in Boston? Know there is a jet blue direct to rsw.

I didn’t realize that. I’ll have to explore that option but I’m guessing those are some pricey flights.

How big is the group? FlixBus offers fairly cheap tickets from MIA/FLL to Key West. You can get some good views on the way down while you're a passenger. I've taken the Greyhound from FLL to MCO (Orlando) and wasn't murdered. Would ride again.
Get a rental if you want the move on your own schedule or the bus system timings don't work too well for you.
There are several companies that offer ride services fitting what you need, but again it all comes down to schedule and how many people are in your group.

Ride the bus. You don't have to do anything but just look out the window or read a book. Plus it's the cheapest way.

You probably should define “best”. Personally I would have just flown into Key West instead of Miami if this is a concern.
But if you must fly to MIA and then transfer to Key West the “best” way is a helicopter or yacht. But I’ll assume that doesn’t fit your budget.

The drive from Mia to KW is about 3 hours. Without any other traffic or stopping then it can be done in about 2.5 hours.
But some of the drive is on one lane highway. If there is any sort of traffic jam for whatever reason, that 3 hour drive can easily become 4-5 hours.
There are some cool little spots along the way to stop & check out if you want to site see along the way.

I have no budget! I’m an unstoppable money making machine!!! Please direct me to your nearest yachtery.
“Best” in this instance would be the cross section between cost and efficiency.

It is a great drive. Take the bus if you can't drive it yourself. Lots to look at. I've done it several times on a motorcycle. The sights and smells are worth it.

Rent a car. It's a gorgeous drive for the most part.
