Saw an early showing tonight.
It’s way better than it has any business being.

Favorite lines that I remember.
I don't like that look Maverick.....
....it's the only look I got.
Mav: I did that so you could live what were you thinking?!
Rooster: You told me not to think!!
Ice: Just one more question. Who's the better pilot. You or me?
Mav: This was a good moment. Let's not ruin it.

i thought i was gonna lose it at the end when Mav goes:
"I'm sorry, Goose."
i was like, "this guy has already defied death 3 times, and now you're going to finally kill him? that's really messed up."

Just got out. As someone else posted, it’s a way better movie than it has any business being.
My only complaint: the soundtrack is lacking. Lot more cinematic, lot less Cheap Trick. And I type this currently blasting Mighty Wings on the radio of my car.
But seriously, that was fantastic

It was terrific and well done. Story lines are good and I will not spoil. The flight scenes are great. Just overall well done sequel and fun watching on the big screen.

I just got home from the 4:45 show. It was very true to the original without being a copy. It was its own story. Its got a lot of moments that pull at the heart strings. Flight scenes are fricking awesome. Jon Hamm was a great addition. Miles Teller was great. Cruise picked the Maverick role right up like the first movie was made last year. I loved the music. I normally have issues with most sequels I see but this was really well done.
As much as I liked the new characters, I REALLY hope they don’t try to make another. This was a perfect way to end it.

I’m seeing it tomorrow in 4DX. Anyone know about this experience and is it worth it?

Really great movie. I was 9 when the original came up so I grew up with it. The movie stands well on its own by including little nods to the original that new viewers don't pick up but aren't really important to the plot. (I was a bit disappointed that they didn't include the side shot of Ed Harris like they did with Tolkin in the original.) The one extended flashback filled in the Goose/Rooster/Maverick dynamic. It'll be a day 1 premium edition purchase on 4K for me...after another IMAX viewing and maybe a 3rd on a regular screen.
My 17 yo went with me and enjoyed it. Neither he nor my wife saw the original so it made me think about the comparisons. When it boils down to comparing them I think someone who hasn't seen the original could watch the sequel first and think the original was the inferior film...opposite of the norm.
I made the biggest effort I've ever made to avoid Spoilers of any kind. Little things that I think even viewers my age could miss were Charley's Porsche/house and Viper's house now being occupied by Ice. I thought they could have tied up the thread of Penny's daughter's dad...the only thing they did was eliminate Maverick as the father. Maybe that'll be in the directors cut. I also figured that it would end with Maverick sacrificing himself until they took off from the carrier with 45 minutes left in the movie.
I was surprised Val Kilmer was able to get out the lines he did (or was that "Hollywood magic"?) It was a very nice surprise.
9.8/10 A classic that will last the year of time. -0.2 for the unrealistic sequence of walking in and stealing a F-14 right after the base was blown up.

Just got home from an IMAX showing. My first theater visit since before Covid. So glad I went and saw it in a theater.
Loved it. All the flight scenes were extraordinary. The first training scene with maverick vs the class was incredible.
That darkstar test flight Mav took looked amazing.
I don’t want to give any spoilers, but for a sequel, it’s one of my favorites of all-time. Good chance I will go watch it again in a theater
Only complaint I would have is that I was disappointed that there wasn’t any mid credit or after the credit scenes. Some behind the scenes footage would have been awesome

Is it worth it to drive an extra 2 hours to watch in imax?

Saw it this afternoon. A few good sentimental moments to the original. A few cheesy lines they could have left out. A few funny moments. Good story, great action. Overall a fun movie, that I will say was a sequel that I was glad they made after watching.
