Really enjoyed it

Connolly looked pretty hot

Loved the callbacks and the music

From when maverick did the rogue training stunt in the valley , the movie just took off.

Wasnt great but I enjoyed it a lot. Flight scenes were excellent.

I’d bet $1000 there is a deleted scene with Rooster yelling “I feel the need for speed” in the last canyon run

Just got home from seeing it.

It's so good. I literally can't stop saying it.

The flight sequences are spectacular. It's SO GOOD.

I didn't want to come home. I wanted to go watch it again.

One question

Is Loggins played

Yes. In the opening credits. I think I mentioned it before. This movie opens 100% like the first one.

Is it worth it to drive an extra 2 hours to watch in imax?

I was wondering if it would. The opening of the first one has always been one of my favorite opening scenes and when it did, I was smiling ear to ear.

They even put in the garbled radio traffic while showing the crews getting ready.

So freaking awesome.

Everybody was a dick in the movie. All the navy guys, almost, fricking disrespected and hated Maverick. I don’t know why. You’d think he’d be a legend.

I wondered how they would handle it and only the soundtrack listing I saw (while killing time until the 1st IMAX showing) spoiled it. Since this is a spoiler welcomed thread I've got to say the way they did it was another very minor blemish. If they wanted to open it the same then use the footage like they did for the piano flashback (loved how they massaged in the original singing of GBOF) and the jetwash/ejection scene. It came across as cosplaying of the original. Run the aged original footage and then pick it up where they did after the fade to black transition.

The fact that it's such minor things like this being criticized speaks volumes about the quality of the film. I got out of the theater 8 hours ago and am already itching to go back to see it again tomorrow. It's been 12 years since I've been able to say that about any movie.

However, in 2021, Sonantic helped restore his true voice using artificial intelligence and previous recordings.
Considering this was pushed back from a summer 2020 release date, at least something good came from the delays caused by the pandemic.

Saw it last night, and I can say that it might be my favorite film I've seen as an "adult"...they hit almost every angle perfectly. It was just a flat out fun movie. The ONLY small criticism I have if I had to find one, is that surely all those Top Guns in the bar would have known who he was. I can't wait to see it again.

This was an intentional bit of nostalgia back to when he was hitting on Charley in the first movie and then had her show up at his Top Gun training. The camera angles and entrance for him were almost identical to how she walked in to his class in the first Top Gun.

Yeah, someone would have known him, but it was a nod to the first movie for all of us and was thoroughly enjoyable how it was done.

I meant to post this last night as the credits rolled, but my cell signal at my theater is garbage.

Maverick is good.

Really good.

Like All-Time-Great-Sequel good.

Empire Strikes Back/Godfather II/Wrath of Khan good.

You could probably distill all the callbacks down to 30 secs, maybe 1 min tops, but still tons of fan service. It may've taken 35 years, but this one was worth the wait.

PS - Jennifer Connelly looks amazing for 53.

My only complaint: the soundtrack is lacking.

This. After all the Lady Gaga ballad hype, I was afraid they were going to beat us to death with it, but I barely noticed it for the 50 Shades of Grey flight scene in the Mustang.

Not getting Kenny Loggins to do an original song for the soundtrack is practically criminal. That it wasn't what was used for the Dogfight Football game on the beach is unforgiveable.

Unrelated - Dogfight Football looks fun AF.

I read an interview with him. He offered to re-record Danger Zone in an updated version, but they didn’t feel it needed to be. It’s still a badass song.

Yeah, I’ve already downloaded the opening titles and they’ll be my alarm when I wake up for work on Monday.

Let there be no doubt, Danger Zone is perfect. I just always loved the additional songs he did on most soundtracks more than the big hits. "Playing with the Boys", "Heaven Help the Man" & "Nobody's Fool" were all amazing.

This.

If you were at all a fan of the first one, you will LOVE this one.

It also works as a stand alone for those that haven't seen the original (enough callbacks and context clues).

They did as much as they could with Val considering his health issues and I felt did right by him and his character.

That dude was always the highlight of the OG opening.

My stepfather was a bit of an audiophile back in the 80s, and when we got a VCR that was capable, he hooked it up to the Hi-Fi stereo system. The opening scene of TG was the first thing he played, as it had just come out on VHS. I was 11 going on 12, and already had the bug. Hearing the planes scream across the living room was a core memory for me. Once I saw the film in theaters, I wanted to be a Naval Aviator on my way to becoming an Astronaut, and that was the plan until my vision got ever-so wonky and I had to scrap the pilot plan.

yeah, that intro song (not Danger Zone) really slaps you with that '80s beat. it could probably be the theme of the '80s.
