Will chains survive??

Hooters Destin wasn’t taking orders online or pickup due to lack of staff. Manager said currently had about 60% or normal staff.

Bubba Gumps (I know but each family member gets to pick) seating less than half their tables due to lack of staff.

Pizza place we always order had just one driver and apologized for time to deliver.

Good news is the tiki hut at beach has plenty of waitresses and as always a reasonably cute FSU student (will get pic tomorrow). FSU girls are fun.

Volume of people here largest I’ve seen for this week and have been coming the same week for 22 years.

It’s everywhere. Went to Pensacola beach and peg leg Pete’s wasn’t serving downstairs. Wait was almost 2 hours and there was nobody there.

Tragic

But I thought the point of Hooters was to go gawk at the waitresses?

Are they attempting to staff these restaurants at server's minimum wage, or have they bumped base wage? Are they offering sick days?

I think a lot of people have woken up to the fact that being a server at a low to mid tier restaurant kinda fricking sucks.

Last time I was in Destin most of the service industry jobs seemed to be Eastern European folks. I’d imagine that pipeline has dried up, but I also didn’t go to the shittiest restaurants in town.

While you are not wrong, summer jobs in destin were not career or long term positions. They were temp summer jobs and they were making $200-400 for a 6 hour shift. Not sure pay has anything to do with it?

I don’t know the future of restaurants in the USA but it doesn’t seem like it’s going to be able to survive with the same staff and service model of the past 30 years

Maybe with the current financial climate, people weren't making $200-$400 per shift at low to mid tier restaurants anymore?

Been that way all along the gulf coast for the two previous summers. Destin has always had staffing issues and used to bring in Eastern Europeans.

No where without an easy drive for large numbers to drive in for low paying jobs.

Considering the rest of the places you listed in confused why you apologized for Bubba Gumps.

And which family member chose Hooters as the family meal in 30a?

Get this dude and his family a bag and can. Because they’re trash

Going to eat on the Florida panhandle just isn’t worth the trouble.
Waits to long, food not that good, traffic sucks, and I have to leave the beach and get dressed.

frick it
I just assume cook myself and enjoy the beach longer.

Meh..the pay at other local places isn’t likely much different but the tips likely are greater as the chain places get the families and likely folks that tip less.

Two local (not chain) places we have eaten were staffed fine but def have increased prices.

Have been tipping generously appreciating those that are working.

Not sure these chains can charge too much more and have average families come out.

I generally think that much of the short term service sector staffing has switched to other types of jobs or simply just not working.

I get outvoted here. Rarely eat out here that is worth a crap. Even the good local places.

I would go get fresh catch and toss on our grill but trying to keep others happy.

*we are cooking this weekend as the long as wait and hunger pains is changing hearts.

It is, if you’re ordering take out from Hooter’s you’re either retarded or stupid, there isn’t a gray area in this matter. Their wings suck, but dem titties

Low to mid tier? Hooters in destin waitresses made absurd money in the summer. The other places, I mean if it’s a low tier place you can’t expect quality staff anyway any year
